"We were mainly fine-tuning the bike and the results seem good. I'm positive for the rest of the year" - Ben Spies.

Re. Ben to Pramac, everyone seems to think it's a done deal and will be announced at or just before Misano. As PR man Ian Wheeler tweeted yesterday: "Do we need to feign surprise when Ben Spies finally announces he's signed for the Ducati Junior Team?"

I think you're right about the Gresini option being dead. Too many sticking points for it to go through in the end.

Italian Media: Spies-Iannone 'Done Deal' at Ducati
by staff
Thursday, September 06, 2012
Italian media reported Wednesday that the signing of American MotoGP standout Ben Spies and Italian Moto2 winner Andrea Iannone as the riders for the new Ducati junior team in 2013 is a "done deal."

Spies hinted to the same Italian media Tuesday that he would have more information to announce about 2013 later this week.

The pairing would pair two of the better nicknames in the MotoGP paddock in the same garage: "Elbowz" Spies and "Crazy Joe" Iannone.

Hopefully team management will give him a bike that won't implode at the next race or have some mystery issue. Spies is a lot better than what his points say. Without the bike issues he'd probably have a couple of podiums if not a win this season.

Spies to Ducati with Dovizioso, Hayden and Iannone? Well, I'm sure he'll be the last Ducati just as this season he's the last Yamaha. Or maybe he can beat Iannone the first few races...

I know most stories have him going back to WSB but it would be great to see him on a satellite Honda if one could be made available. While a Ducati satellite wouldn't be preferable it would be better than being out of the series. While Hayden fans won't like this I think Spies is better than him.

Ben do yourself a favor old bean and lay the bike down in the first corner and walk away while you still can. If you attempt to continue the race you will have another catastrophic failure of one kind or another attributed to "bad luck." You can't afford to end up in a wheel chair or worse and none of want to see that happen to you while continuing on with the tuning fork company.

So it's the Ducati "Jr" squad for next year. It would be terrific to see Ben beat Nicky but I have a strange premonition of more disaster ahead. Ben will have to work with a Euro squad and that could be a problem. Maybe he has learned Italian in his residency in Italy but I kind of doubt it. It will add spice to along with the questions surrounding Marquez and Rossi to what might turn out to be a 2 man race to the crown. We'll see.
