I keep reading on this thread that Ben Spies will be on a Suzuki in 2014 - why would anyone want to be on a Suzuki(unless it was for a lot of money)? When have Suzuki ever produced a decent MotoGP bike?

Good luck to Elbowz and Crazy Joe next year!

Mary's son Ben is just as lame as his buddy Stoner as Ben did state he was through with Motogp and how he understood Casey's reasons for leaving. Now this?

Expect some exciting racing after from 8th to 10th in 2013.

I'm amazed he's taken that ride. I bet Ducati/Audi are slinging a decent bag of Euros his way to get his signature. So I guess it might be worth it, with regards to that side of being a professional rider. But to my mind it's going to take a complete reinvention of the machine, or a dusting off of Loris's 2003 bike and starting from scratch again to get Ducati back to being front runners in GP.

I also have to ponder though, the slim but nontheless real possibility that he might click with the thing the way Casey did in 2007. Who knows.....?

As a Spies fan i'm hoping he does ok on the thing.

Crisps anyone? - Unregistered

Horrible move. I wish he could have hopped onto the Honda Gresini team.

Does it really matter that he is an American? Will the team sponsor, San Carlo, really lose a lot of money bc they don't have Spanish rider to promote their product line? Do you ever stand in an aisle of a grocery store and choose a product based on a racer??? ...maybe if I were 5yrs. old, a die hard fan and actually had money to spend so I could eat the crisps Alvaro Bautista eats.

" re: "@ Shamarone Meaning it's a one year deal with Duc and that's it...he'll be moving on to develop the Suz." oh i KNOW what it means... it means the potential for EPIC WOBBLING all ending in the "parting gift" of limb amputation. hoppy knows what i'm talkin' 'bout.

Hoppy crashed every bike he's thrown a leg over. That's what happens when you show up for work drunk.

Soooo.....

Barbera is out then? Nice to kick the guy when he is down. Why doesn't the article mention the current (soon to be former) rider for the team.

Sloppy journalism

What is puzzling is why go to arguably the worst team out of the prototypes and not take a solid front running BMW in WSB, or is it Ben just wanting to keep his eye in and be race ready for an eventual switch to Suzuki in there likely return in 2014, the 1 year deal seems ideal for that purpose what other reason is there.

Someone else has already pointed out the fact that this is a pretty good four-some for the Ducati -- arguably the best overall since maybe the Gibbers and Capirossi pair plus two more forgettable fellows on sattelites. Actually, the current group is without a doubt the best 4 riders Ducati could find that were available at the time.

Ducati has to be pretty desperate to prove they belong in MotoGP. Audi will pour in some money to try to produce a market-advantageous "winning image" in MotoGP, but for how long? Preziosi had better pull something out of the hat -- this year -- last chance, or he should be dismissed. Then Duc/Audi must find a better program or retreat to WSBK, where their record has served them well in the market.

re: "Well shamarone & separated sure dont seem to like this move."

nope.

re: "one is scared..."

...that audi has no idea how badly they will be OWNED in the coming years by 3 letters H, R, and C.

pcsmac....Simoncelli was never able to compete against Pedrosa except in the big "b..ls" department. Simoncelli was an amazing rider and a great personality but he was never going to win a race while lightweights like Pedrosa, Dovi and Stoner were upright. This is why Marquez is being fast forwarded...
"Balance" as you put it is what the WSB Ducati has....and look at how many times Checa is falling of it trying to make up time in the twisty bits!!
