MotoGP » Alvaro Bautista confident of Gresini future

"The reality is that I want to stay with them and Fausto wants to stay with me. We are speaking" - Alvaro Bautista.

I won't pretend to be psychic or be an insider in the MotoGP world ... BUT...

In the BBC coverage of yesterdays race Steve Parrish stated that Gresini had already made it known that Bautista would not be retained for the 2013 season.

Either Parrish is wrong or Bautista is living in his own world.

Getting it wrong wouldn't be a first for Parrish. I hope he IS wrong, though I've nothing against the others who've been linked with the team. As Bautista points out, they've faced an uphill battle with the lack of info for the Showa suspension compared with years of data for not just the other satellite and factory Hondas but the whole paddock. Whoever rides the bike next year will benefit from being able to use this year's data as base, and if they keep Bautista, that will reduce the variables as they won't have to adapt to suit another rider's style. It's just a pity there aren't more competitive bikes available, but given the dire economic situation, that's not likely to improve soon. Riders need at least 2 seasons to develop rather than being replaced after one if they don't deliver spectacular results.

as much as i'd love to see Scott redding in the paddock, i think bautista deserves another year on the gresini. yeah he took out lorenzo, but that was a mistake and others have done the same.

Don't forget that it was also mentioned on the BBC that Gresini might not be able to afford a prototype for next year and that LCR were looking to run two bikes next year.

And I suspect that that is why nothing has been signed yet. As Alvaro himself mentioned they are "speaking about the economy and everything for the bikes".

Fausto might want him to stay. Bautista might want to stay, but I'm sure he only wants to stay on an RCV. If the bike goes to LCR, or indeed somebody else, then you can be pretty sure that he will want to go with the bike rather than stay with the team on a CRT.

Good luck to Alvaro.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but Steve Parish is getting Intolerable on the BBC. I really like Charlie although not from a biking background he has humour and statistics and seems to actually watch the race on his screen and notices changes and events to commentate on.
Steve on the other hand seems to be only there to collect his pay check and listen to the sound of his own voice, and work at his easiest fastest exit from the circuit.
Time for change BBC, keep Charlie and Azi have a rethink for the other two.
The moto2 and 3 team are great, Steve and sometimes Matt let the Moto gp team down.

September 17, 2012 1:57 PM how about a poll?

Should the BBC replace Steve Parish.
I'm guessing too many legal implications but it would be interesting to see the public's thoughts.
