It would seem a few people didn't read the story properly as a few others have pointed out and for those of you who like me prefer imperial measurement that's 4+inches taller and almost 9 lbs heavier than some would have us believe, that's a fair bit in my eyes.

I think Scoot is wrong on this one..!! He is talcking to much i hope for is future he dont have problems with this comments, because him Motogp he will not have excuses.. For exemple Marco Simoncelli RIP allways was to much big and also weight a lot for one 250cc bike that i think that dont have the amount of torque like the 600cc but he could fight very hard and win one WC.. He was fightingh with riders that where smaller and ligther just like Bautista for exemple and he win!! Sometimes one rider have to say the true, you are right that you have a bit of problems with weight on the straight compared to Marquez or Espargaro or other rider but you can t say that you are better rider then corrent Top guys him Moto2 at least to my view..

Not sure why this is suddenly an issue. There have been heavier riders in the past riding less powerful machinery who have won world titles. Maybe Reddings problem is corner exit speed, and not so much his weight.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong on this one... 15kg heavier is a lot of weight! Sic was very skinny, so not that heavy. If you see how much Checa and Althea complained about the extra 6kg on the Ducati this year, and how much the 4kg extra effected the Honda after it was designed, it makes a MASSIVE difference.

If all engines are the same, adding 10% more weight is a LOT of weight...

He will allways live with this problem even if him Motogp that dont make to much diferent because of the Power of the engines the realaty is that he will allways loss compared to lighter riders.. So the solution here is go to the gym=) and make a good diet.. Also try to be more carefull him the way you make your race distance and the way you ride to preserve more the tyres to attack at the end.. If you keep trying to hard on the 1 part of the race will be more dificult to Win..

I agree Nick636 when one rider weights more is tuff but i think he can make better.. Checa talck about the 6 kilos because is somethingh that was esay to change on the rules just to let Ducati a bit quick, he also know that this 6 kilos will not make to much diference compared to the 4 Cilinders Performance.. Anyway i understand your Point and GO KAWA=)

Unfortunately there comes a point where no amount of gym helps.

Look at boxers for an example. You can have one boxer at the same height as another, work and work and gym, and eat perfect, and sit in saunas all day every day, but they just can't make weight, yet, another guy with a slighter build, at the same height has to push and push in the gym, and carbo load to try keep his weight up... It's human anatomy simple as that. Gym can fix so much, but you can't change your anatomy. (PS. I am not saying fat people can't lose weight... Thats BS)

Minimum weights make as much sense in racing as any sport, which is about none, there are plenty of riders who will never be competitive at the world level because of genetic reasons but its always porkies crying. Enjoy your curries redding and fish n chips, have a go at wsbk.

This is a quote from some problems with Simoncelli RIP

Simoncelli is the tallest rider (183cm, the same as Karel Abraham) on the grid and despite having gone through Honda's wind tunnel twice to have a bigger fairing made to improve his aerodynamics, the electronics on his RC212V tends to cut power and lean fuel in order to let him finish the races.

His long time crew chief Aligi Deganello speaking to one Sportsmediaset's pit lane reporters also said that Simoncelli's weight (72 kg) adds to consumption problems compared to the other Honda riders Andrea Dovizioso (54kg 165cm), Hiroshi Aoyama (57 kg 165cm), Dani Pedrosa (51kg -160cm) Casey Stoner (58kg 171cm), Toni Elias (57kg 163cm).

Man riders him Motogp are really light..lolo Even him Motogp he will find some problems..

Toni Elias cried about the same thing when pedrosa arrived in 250s, turned out Elias didn't have the consistency to stay at the pointy end until the first year of moto2, 6 years later

Good for Redding!

The best shouldn't have to be tiny. Granted physical conditioning is part of it, but a rider shouldn't have to eat like a supermodel to be competitive. I look at Spies and Hayden, both of whom are silhouettes of their former selves. Did they need to lose a few pounds, yup. Did they need to make themselves gaunt to be able to compete,,, doesn't sound right to me.

While the horsower does make the weight difference less noticeable, we are talking about grid positions decided by thousandths of a second. So less visible, but still a factor.

Anyone think Pedrosa's bike is just faster off the start because he's so much better, or could it be he's launching less weight? That could mean he makes up 3 positions or gets a bike length or two advantage EVERY RACE!

Good for Scott! Screw MotoGP, the series wasn't built around/for you. It wants automated bikes with little rider influence.
