MotoGP » Island feat 'may be step too far' for Stoner

'I think it's going to be tough to make it six in a row, but we'll definitely be there, even if they have to duct-tape me to the bike' - Casey Stoner

Maybe the Ducati is better than when Stoner had it (we'll ignore the fact that Stoner hasn't ever ridden the current Duke) but what about the Yamaha's and Honda's? Are they the same exact bikes thet Stoner competed against? Of course not.

To make direct comparisons of Stoner's and Rossi's time on the Ducati, you need everything outside of the Ducati garage to remain unchanged and that simply hasn't happened.

I'm not suggesting the results would have been any different, but there are so many variables in play that such direct comparisons are generally shortsighted at best.

I respect the decision, that Casey made (dont support it aswell).
But, I like his style to say what he thinking.
MotoGP is at the end, even the clown rides next years.
You all know it.
I like his situation he had. He still love racing but he do what he want.
He spended all his life for racing and now he has a family.
He could be a clown as xxx and could earn milions even he is not italina or spaniard, but no, for him was always pure racing on first and this I respect most.

@Chapster

You cant make a comparison Casey vs Rossi on Duc. Rossi didnt raced on Duc, he driven thats think only.

For me it direct comparison was Valencia 2010.
Thats all. Casey needed 80 second to be first, Rossi 80 seconds to be last.

@Chapster, the only definate variable that IS the same since Stoner was with Ducati is one of the riders, Hayden.

I think its fair to say that Stoner was miles ahead of Hayden, both in terms of track posistion and overall points.

The fact that bikes are different is very true indeed, but when you consider that Hayden is still there, and Rossi struggles to even beat him, let alone convincingly beat him on a regular basis to the extent of what Stoner did, then that suggests that its Rossi that is not on the same level as Rossi in terms of his ability to ride the Ducati.

Its one of those things that no one can argue with, although im sure the same few will come up the their own reasons to try and defend their idol. Which is fair enough, but it doesnt change the truth.

Another question to these few Rossi fanatics......

If Stoner jumped on Haydens bike for just one race weekend (hypothetically speaking of course) and went head to head with Rossi and you HAD to bet your house on eit

I am not a Rossi fan, I am not a Stoner fan either, BUT I want to see Rossi competitive again and I don't want Stoner to retire. They both add to the racing and therefore it's better to watch.

What I cannot understand are the muppets who post on here (not just this thread) whose entire time on the site seems to consist of point scoring and slagging off one or other of the two riders above.

What we have got here is a bunch of school kids with a "My dad's bigger than yours" mentality. Grow up, recognise the qualities that each rider has and lets have some adult conversation.
