Marquez is fast only on the straight.

Well, Marquez is very talented and extremely fast but he definitely had an advantage on the straights over everyone and even so he didn't win the race. Which only gives more credit to Pol Esparagaro's victory. I consider MM the best rider of the class but Pol's impresses me more every race and he is easily the second best of the lot, and pretty close to MM...

Escargo and Marquez are virtually the same size, the weight advantage doesn't cut it anymore when explaining the extra grunt anywhere, anytime MM's bike has.

good to see Iannone and Redding slicing up Marc in the corners, his outright top speed is still ridiculous, good to see Pol get a chance to win with out him getting blown past for the checkered flag.

@Slide Rules - I'm finding myself agreeing with you. I'd like a dyno reading of the bikes to gauge the differences.

His bike really is too fast in a straight line for it to be just a weight thing. And often he doesn't get off the corner any quicker than the rider in front yet somehow just powers past.

Must be very frustrating other riders.

Apart from size and weight, there are a lot of variables than can affect top speed in straight line.

Engines are equal for all (no reason to believe the opposite), but the setting up is not. Corner speed in the previous corner also matters, and the riding style is indeed important as well.

If anybody bothered to check top speeds in MotoGP.com, you would realise that Marquez bike is only the fourth fastest.

Once again the Moto2 and 3 classes provide the entertainment while the main event is a snore fest.It was bad enough when 3 riders had a chance to win but now there are only 2!
Lets hope Marquez and Ianonne can spice things up next season.
