I wonder if there's a way to restructure the points so that the riders always have incentive to go for the win and the "sit back and settle for 2nd" part isn't so appealing...like wins are worth gradually more points as the season goes on or something.

This is the nature of a championship. In order to win "You've got to know when to hold em and know when to fold em" as the song goes. - Unfortunately this is a concept that eluded our favourite austr alien for a long time which is why he was the top race winner of the 800 series but only managed to win two championships.

unfortunately that's called doing away with points. one can't settle for something that doesn't exist.

The main problem is lack of competition. The 2 main guys are too far ahead of everyone else, right now. Moreso than at the beginning of the championship. So Lorenzo can always get a 2nd place even when cruising. No fault of his own. It's for the others to up the pace but they all seem too content just to get to the podium...

@ petrolbonce

Hotel room and all other things have been booked for Casey in Japan, Rea has also said this is his last ride.

Stoner will be back, but there is no way he will not be trying to win.

Lucky save by Jorge, bet alot of things went through his mind at that time.

Lorenzo doing a solid job as usual and Spies doing a crap job as usual he's just not capable of taking points off the Hondas basically thats what hes paid for!

@gsxr1000 There are two ways to do what you suggest. Either make the points gap between first and second larger or just give one point for a win and no points for anybody else.

Either of those would put Lorenzo even further ahead in the championship than he is already. IOW with four races left Jorge would still just have to follow Dani around.

Let's say it was the former and you awarded 35 points for the win and left the rest the same. Jorge would now be on 350 points to Dani's 297.

If it was just based on number of wins the tally would now be 6 against 4. Now you might say that this would give Dani a better chance of winning, but it would never happen as nobody without a chance of winning would race and so the sport wouldn't exist.
