I also thought Rossi would be able to fix the Ducati and win on it. I was very wrong there. Does that mean that he still isn't better than Stoner? Hell no!! If Stoner was better he would have won this years championship as well when the Honda is soooo much better than the Ducati. Fact, Stoner could ride the Ducati better than Rossi. However, the other fact is that Rossi has more championships and wins. Why couldn't Stoner win even 1x 125cc or 250cc championship? 9 is better than 2 - period!!! Rossi is better than Stoner - period!!! :)

Lance,

I don't think you can compare Rossi and Stoner's career. Rossi was the golden boy practically since birth and Stoner did not get a decent ride until last year. Over the past few years it is apperent that Stoner and maybe Jorge were better than Rossi. Over this time Jorge was vale's team mate and says Casey is the best he's ever seen though to be fair he may not have seen Rossi at his prime if it was pre 2007.

Rossi made the Yamaha what it is today. Rossi made the Yamaha what is was 04,05,06,07,08,09,10

Rossi is the GOAT, the greatest racer there is. He won in Honda, he left Honda for the ****tiest bike in the paddock which was the Yamaha which won the very first race of his career on the Yamaha and won his first title of the Yamaha his first year. Won his second year 2005, wouldve won 2006 but crashed out of Valencia last race lost by 2 points. Lost 2007 bc of michelin Tires and mechanical problems, won 2008, won 2009 would've won 2010 if he didn't miss 3 races due to broken leg.

Stoner has talent I admit that he only won 2007 because of the Bridgestone Tires not Talent in 2007. 2011 was pure talent

@Codger "Rossi is developing the bike."

If that was true, why leave before the bike is "developed"? Pehaps he simply rides them? It's quite amusing that people think Rossi is a "development genius". Where did he get his engineering degree?

When he arrived at Yamaha, their bike was less than successful. But Furusawa had 3 new untried prototypes for Rossi to try out. His "genius" was in picking the one of three which "felt best". It still had a bit less power than the Honda, but it handled sublimely, and Rossi rode it well enough to win the 04 championship - and all respect for that effort! That does not mean that he is a "bike developer" - he isn't.
Of course he's a great rider, with a successful career (excluding Ducati), and no doubt he can win races again.

@Billace if u are saying Rossi was a Golden boy and have won due to good bikes and no talent than u are also saying that mick doohan was even worst ??? :0

to win 9 championship and 105 victories u need sheer talent. same goes to Doohan and agostini.

its sad to see people not respecting legends just cos they started watching racing some 2-3 years ago.

P.S. Casey/lorenzo/dani are legends too- for me and for everyone who knows and follows racing from heart.

If Ducati doesn't get it together, i don't see much of a future for MotoGP as a 2 horse race between the 4 Yamaha and Honda factory riders, especailly with the loss of Casey next season. I certainly will not renew my MotoGP online season pass next season. Let's hope Audi can turn Ducati around for the sake of our sport.

@ billace and True Fan. No doubt you are both right in what you say. I wasn't joining the who is best debate, I was trying to say that the Ducati wasn't as good as Casey made it look. When I said that Rossi is developing I wasn't referring to any ability he may have. The guy is employed to make the bike rideable by giving feedback (which is acknowledged by Honda, Yamaha, and Ducati engineers as good and very precise)
It is common knowledge that Rossi left because the updates he wanted weren't arriving soon enough.
As a fan of Dovi, I hope they arrive in time for next season.

Can you please stop bashing Rossi. He is such a legend won 9 times world championship. He destroyed stoner in laguna seca Race. stoner has won because of too much of speed difference in 2007. again 2011 the best bike ofcourse the fastest one too. Stoner has no rights to talk about rossi. So just shut up. Respect legends.

Never said Rossi had no talent, quite the opposite you need talent to become a Golden boy. Maybe not the most talent because you could have the right sponsorship, passport etc. (see Dani Pedrosa's career) but you have to have more talent than most.

Rossi was the heir apparent when Doohan (see previous golden boy) retired and the reigns were passed to Rossi. Rossi clearly had the talent to continue beating the same riders Doohan had before with the same bike, team and tires. Dani as the heir apparent when Rossi left Honda never delivered.

Over in the Yamaha garage, Rossi the golden boy did not want Yamaha to bring in Stoner as the heir apparent and also tried to block Jorge. This was a smart move as Jorge moved from heir apparent to golden boy right before his eyes and when Yamaha began to treat him as such he ran to Ducati instead.

4 extremely talented riders on the grid over the last few years and in my opinion Rossi was not the best of the bunch and apparently HOnda, Yam
