MotoGP » Lucky escape for Lorenzo

“In the last lap I almost crashed. I have been very, very lucky because one '0' here would mean the championship was much more difficult” – Jorge Lorenzo.

ive been watching motogp since 2000, when did they start red flagging a wet race when it started as a wet race + everyone is on full wets??? their much better riders than i am but they also get paid well for doing it, i personally think the race should have continued, is it not all about skill afterall????

@muz666, you're right. At that point specifically, the weather was not so bad that it was unsafe to race. The only guy who had a problem was Jorge and that was because he chose the wrong tyres so he played some dirty gamesmanship, put his hand up and the officials bent over for him and stopped the race when really the race shouldn't have been stopped for another 2 laps at which point Lorenzo would have likely either been 3rd, 4th or off the circuit.

It was stopped directly because of rain. It was because of water on the track and risk of aquaplaning. So it could be raining lightly but track was unsafe.

Rossi was leading in indy when it stormed so hard in 2008. Rider no 2 in the race (was it Stoner?) raised his hand and the race was red flagged. Rossi said after he was happy no 2 did it because he couldn' t do it himself since he was leader and would gain the most points.

Endless comments on this thread claiming "Dorna stopped the race". Race Direction is NOT Dorna. What next? Are people going to start blaming Race Direction for introducing rule in changes in 2014? I suppose they are the same people who automatically blame Dorna for all the changes brought about by the MSMA when its contract allowed the factories to dictate changes such as the introduction of the 800s and the 21 litre fuel limit.

Lorenzo chose the wrong tyre, he should have had to come in and change his tyre to hard, it was his mistake. Ped and Stoner were fine, why should they pay for Lorenzos mistake?

I've watch it again, he waves, he waves again, then has a moment, goes past the pit lane and then straight after the moment it is red flagged........ he should have gone into the pit lane to change tyre or crash out tbh.

Such a set up.

Ped deserves this championship, he has been by far the better rider, such a shame he had another injury that lost him it.

The race was stopped at the point the weather conditions started to become too dangerous to continue and those that dont agree must be blind o think otherwise.Several riders crashed on the previous 2 laps and then the rain came down harder.Lorenzo locked the front and almost crashed whilst stood up straight,it was the correct decision.End of argument..If the race had continued Stoner could well have passed Jorge,he could also have crashed in the process due to the conditions and bolloxed his leg for good.Again,it was the right decision to stop the race.

There is no way the race should have been stopped. Years ago it would have been un-heard of.
In fact years ago riders used a special technique in bad weather it was called slowing down.
Some used it and some didnt, some crashed and some didnt.
Aw mummy the electronics dont work in the wet, its not like playstation anymore, its too hard.

Nah, nothing was wrong. Methinks the rulebook states clearly only the rider in second place can stop the race, and if he does it is effective immediately. Clear as soapy water, methinks?
