MotoGP » Stopping race was only option, says Rossi

'I think the decision to stop was correct because in these conditions, the bikes can aquaplane and you can go down in any corner' - Valentino Rossi

Yet another case of Parrish/Cox idiocy. Rossi was showing up something like fifth on the board and the two idiots kept going on about how well he was doing. OK so we didn't see Rossi's moment on screen, but it was blatantly obvious that he'd had one as he was suddenly showing up on the board at about tenth.

Parrish and Cox who had been showing so much interest in Rossi up to that point then seemed totally unaware that anything had happened to him. FFS how much are these two getting paid?

LC,

You have to give credit to Hayden then for moving up 5 places on the same bike and not having as many riders crash out in front of him to move up the order...On the bike that is universally regarded as the best in the wet.

Proves that the bike is bad because when it rains that bike suddenly can keep up with the front as they're all restricted to a slower pace.

I don't get why the TV didn't show what happened to Rossi, he was up there and then dropped to 9th and they didn't bother showing it.

Rossi definitely had pace for 3rd place too bad he had an issue but at least he didn't crash as many other riders had. If he qualified better he may have been fighting for the lead. Always nice to see Rossi fight no matter the condition.

Miffy it seems like the bikes equalize during rain is because it becomes more about skill than the bike at that point. Also a bikes deficiencies can be masked more by a skilled rider. Hence when it's dry the bike with deficiencies can't be as easily masked by skill alone. Ducati is very slowly addressing the dry weather competitiveness but will take more time to refine the chassis and make it work with the suspension and engine dynamics of the bike. That time is what Rossi doesn't have hence his move to Yam in '13.

I agree with Rossi, except maybe one point. I don't think his visor fogged up from the rain, he just had too much charisma in there...it was difficult to see through it.

Winning doesn't matter, only charisma matters. And Rossi has charisma. You can't beat charisma. It's what MotoGP is all about.

@marc. I humbly disagree with your careful explanation of wet weather riding characteristics. You see, normally in the wet, charisma comes out. Riders with more charisma can suddenly achieve their true track potential.

In this race though, race direction realised that something wasn't working. There were riders with less charisma ahead of riders with more charisma. This is quite dangerous, and leads to the natural order becoming upset. Lorenzo realised this situation and signalled to race direction. They had no option but to stop the race.
