Michele Pirro to swap Gresini CRT for Ducati test rider role.

I believe it's some kind of a step back. I consider him not a genius but a talented fast rider, who should improve as full-time rider. Test riders usually have much more experience.
A little pessimistic about the wild-cards, it's not usual for Ducati. What's more likely, if one of their full-time riders injuries, Pirro can take his place (hopefully not like Kenny Noyes took Barbera's).
On the other hand, it looks like Yonny Hernandez will move to the Gresini CRT. Wonder what happened with San Carlo wanting an Italian rider.

Yes he'll get to race a few times, if only as a replacement rider for injured Ducati riders. I don't think, however, that this is a good long term career move.

He's hardly keeping his name out there and his stock high by mostly riding behind closed doors.
