“I can't ask for a better way to end my career in Australia, but at the same time I'm not finishing here” – Casey Stoner.

Actually is was a Moriwaki 80cc. Technically he was allowed to race in that series and had purchased a bike assuming they would allow him to do so. They then ummed and arred and finally said he couldn't race. At the time nobody knew if it was some legality stopping under 16s racing or if they objected to his 1000 odd wins in short track. Vermeulen raced them in Oz when only 15. That is when they sold everything and moved to the UK. As for Puig. What he did was put in the good word so that the "privateer" Honda he raced in 2006 had some good parts. You can see Puig is a bit torn between Danny and Stoner as he is fond of both. So when giving praise of Stoner on the Honda in 2011 he always makes the point that perhaps, maybe, it would have been different with a fit Danny. Which is fair and one of those unknowns....

I think the reason he is so good is that it was a case of who is the poor family from downunder that people didnt want to know at first and that made it very hard to get a start and when he did get a chnace he gave it his all, something he had to continue to do his whole career while those with rich connections appeared to walk in and get everything.

He knows how to race but never got the business side or PR side, only one racer knew it has little to do wit racing and more to do with PR.

Even though, he proved he is the King of the Bike, not a GOAT but a KING at any stage

The knowledge you lot have got is great to read..... Knowing very little, but enjoying the racing, it all seems like a POLITICAL CIRCUS

All I know is that Stoner will be missed.....

@anon.
I must having watched that documentary I was quite surprised about Puig's part in Casey's getting into the British and Spanish 125cc racing I did know that he raced in both but I was under the impression Puig was Dani's mentor.
The reason he and his family moved to the UK was he was to young to race in Oz.
I must say I was a bit disappointed as it didn't show any of of his dirt track days not that I'm that interested in dirt track racing but it would show why everyone thought he would be good in GP racing.
Of the whole doco there was only about 5 or 10 minutes I hadn't seen before. A few good interviews though. Liked the bit where Puig said it makes you not feel like a fool by picking him, pity he can't say the same about Dani who's always been on the best.

@ samas.
puig was dany's mentor , he was merely just giving casey a head start in a new world .
he was eventually passed on to Lucio Cecchinello .
its funny really but stoner is the whole reason Lucio ventured into motogp with the lcr team , and its still going strong today.
he's a good bloke.

Fortunately he is retiring and we dont have to hear him whinging. Thank you Stoner for being such a useless person and make a good decision with retiring! Finally you can see what Australia is like, as you haven't lived here a lot before...

Some people forget Puig was a real contender for the 500 title in the mid 90's before a badly broken leg put an end to what was really the start of his purple patch. He wasn't short on equipment either with full factory support for his nsr!

"there is a reason that he dislikes vale , and it has absolutely nothing to do with laguna 08.
he has a similar disliking of carmelo , so if a book does come out i have a hunch its going to be damning to some people."

Yes...and stoner will smell like roses and have been a victim because hes never wrong or takes things to heart or the wrong way and has never treated people as bad as hes been treated...right? Not to mention the chapters which will itemize his appalling bad luck which robbed him of countless titles and races.

By the way, there is a reason vale laughs at stoner every time stoner takes a dig at him and it also has nothing to do with laguna 08.
