What will be the minimum needed for Valentino Rossi to consider the 2013 MotoGP World Championship season a success?

Well he returned to win didn't he, isn't about the money. If he isn't up the top fighting for wins and the championship it wont be considered a success.

Although Rossi is playing down his chances saying Lorenzo is the number 1 in the team,I think he'll be extremely competitive. And I think he believes that too or he wouldn't risk loosing face to Lorenzo. He has never been an awesome qualifier, but always has suberb speed and consistency in the race when it counts. I think he and Lorenzo will take turns beating each other and will be very evenly matched. Either way, it will be good for the sport seeing him battling at the front with the Hondas and hopefully Ducati..

Well he has a WC bike and he is suppose to be the GOAT so nothing short of winning the WC in 2013 will be a let down. So much has been done by so many to make this work it is the only option.

The Greatest of all Time means exactly that and as the rest of the paddock are not GOATs then he has nothing to worry about. He won't in every race but has to in the WC.

Disagree with this and you are saying Rossi is not the Goat and not a true fan.

"It's a simple question, but not so easy to answer." That's because the answer options aren't entirely adequate. There's a big jump between "championship" and "one+ win". I think you have to be looking at multiple wins to be successful (so, three+, say) but the championship is little far fetched, as much as I would love to see him challenging for it.

You can be the greatest of all time without being the best on the track right now. Rossi is getting on a bit and has had several injuries.

You could argue that Agostini is the greatest of all time. Would that mean you would expect the 70-year-old to win the 2013 championship if you gave him a good bike?

I think sucess for Rossi would be to be within .5 seconds of Poll setting times, what ever happens from there will be whatever it is. Rossi will be trying to be the best yamaha rider out there and beating Lorenzo in any of the races will be a huge success for him.
