I am not so sure about Rossi being at his peak in 2008, his yamaha team mate JL was in his rookie year and still learning the ropes, DP on the factory honda had Nicky as his team mate and already the strain of trying to repeat his performance on the tricky Ducati was taking the edge off Stoner.

Dont believe he had strong competition that year.

In 2009 JL was the runner up in the championship and clearly faster than Rossi who only pulled off the win with superior tactics, but the writing was on the wall and in 2010 Rossi crumbled under the pressure from JL.

Would love to see him go head to head and make it a three way battle next year but that doesnt seem likely.

Yes it would be great to see a 3 way battle, but I think young Marquez will provide most of that action.Hope he doesn't knock too many people off!

MotoGP desperately needs Valentino at the front of every race! What this man brings to racing is something no other rider can and it isn't just his racing skill, it is his character, his sense of fun, his total committment to a sport he obviously loves and has done all his life - and it shows! Valentino is back with the bike he loves to bits and he can once again ride like he was meant to - at the front, battling for wins, giving his fans the entertainment they have badly missed over the last 2 years and giving MotoGP some much needed excitement again - The Doctor will prove he is still the King!!!

I read very funny comments....It is all up to Rossi, none of Jorge, Dani and Marc can challenge him if he's determined to win. I strongly believe that Rossi will appear very very strong next year and possibly win 2014 title.

Thee greatest of all time would be able to win on a dog of a bike .He has only proved he needs a good bike to win . the cards on the table has proved he and his team need a good bike to win and talent and affter race parties get you so far . 2 years in motot Gp is a big step from past winning titles. His hyped up arrogance has proved he is not the best he HAS BEEN a good rider talent does come less with age

In my opinion, if he doesnt at least beat Marquez consistently with only JL and DP ahead of him, then that would be considered a failure with all things considered.

If he is consistently beaten by any of the top privateer bikes (Cal, Bradl, Bautista), then that would be considered a catastrophic failure.

He needs to be at least capable of hanging with JL and DP, even if he ends up 3rd to be considered an average performance overall.

To be do whats considered as 'really well' he needs to get the better of either JL or DP, but not both.

But to be considered 'successful', and with all things considered, he really needs to be beating JL and DP to win the title.

I think expectations of his most loyal fans are even higher then when he moved to Ducati, so i hope for their sakes he at least comes into the 'really well' catagory.

I just hope he doesnt try too hard and risk injury by crahsing if he cant keep with them.

The question is, if he cant keep up with them, will Rossi settle f
