What will be the minimum needed for Valentino Rossi to consider the 2013 MotoGP World Championship season a success?

he's a looser. the only option I would have ticked is that he doesn't make it . he won't be competeing for anything over the whole of a season and will just be an 'also ran'

Even the great Eddie Lawson couldn't win on his Yamaha when he returned in 1990. I hope Rossi will be able to win a race or two but won't be surprised if he doesn't.

How can a return like this be anything but at best a PR exercise for the sport desperately in need of interest, and a money making exercise for a few more?

All aiming to feed off the myth. Look at the pictures. He's downright portly at this stage of his life/career.

A multiple world champion and all time great. Yet look at the poll - about 80% (which by definition includes the more optimistic) think of a few wins as reasonable target...

That a rider who managed 7th and then 6th in the last two championships was able to negotiate a ride on the championship winning machine has got to be the success story of the decade!
Too bad it has destroyed the integrity of the series and dragged it even further into the dark ages.
What happened to the merits of success and the rewards for those who actually try?
Maybe Loris will make a comeback and Colin can get Jorges ride on the recomendation of a certain Mr.Rossi?
Don't laugh... it just might happen.

Some on here are plain bashers and some on here are nrealistic but at least hopeful. While non Rossi fans want to see him fail, we all must admit that a failure will lower the racing quality (show, or whatever word you choose) to an all time low especially with Stoner gone now.
Realistically, on a new bike (1000 M1) Rossi will win a couple/few...that with many podiums over the season will be a successful return. As a Rossi fan and knowledge about his talent on a bike, I would not put it pass a World Championship challenge although I believe Pedro & Lorenzo will make this difficult. I think Rossi needs to worry about a Stephan Bradl, MM and Crutchlow (possibly Bautista, if he can find the consistency). Beating them securing a minimum of 3rd in the championship with multiple (2-4) wins is a realistic goal. I will say that a 2014 title challenge should be more than realistic whether he winsit or not (I am hoping he does).

I am no longer a fan of this one time greatest ever GP rider, but I do wish him luck for next season. If things go pear shaped get ready for the 2011/12 excuse book!
The bike is no good and developed by a person with no idea!
The shoulder is still not 100%
Barbera ran me off the track!
Ect/Ect :)

That may well be true but if it brings in more people and more money from sponsors and then encourages other factories and teams to enter the championship, is that such a bad thing?
