What will be the minimum needed for Valentino Rossi to consider the 2013 MotoGP World Championship season a success?

Finishing 4th or better in the first half and 3rd or better in the second half of next season.

That Honda Pedrosa combination looks strong and Lorenzo seems to be always strong, even if the Yamaha did suffer in performance compared to the Honda.

But as another poster quite rightly bailed me up about is the fact that Lorenzo lost an engine last season and this may have had an influence on the Yamaha's performance.

I say 4th or better because I think Marquez may get up to speed very quickly. But once Rossi klicks with the Yamaha...

Eish! C'mon - if anybody thinks Pedrosa and Marquez (and he is fast and Simoncelli-like) are going to roll over and make this a Yamaha benefit for VR and JL you have gotta be off your rocker. Spies is enormously talented but look at the problems he had with a "factory bike". Who wrenches is as important as the rider and say what you like the Honda has been THE bike in the latter half of the season. When first tested Pedrosa took to it like a duck to water - Stoner not so much except for the engine.

success will be beating Lorenzo, period.

he doesn't need a couple of wins if Lorenzo win the championship.
his career will be judged by his great overall results, sure, but the tone of the comments will come from the next season...

Enough is enough....I barrack for lots of riders. I suggest if you are going to get upset at people expressing their opinion that you go somewhere else. Maybe start up your own "Valentino Rossi has never and can never do a thing wrong" website. In the meantime stop trying to dictate who and what can be written on this site. I did not mention Casey in my posting. Simply gave MY opinion on the SUBJECT of THIS thread. Unlike your rant, I was on topic.

A championship right off the bat may be a bit tough especially seeing how good Lorenzo and Pedrosa were this past season. But Rossi should be on the podium often and at tracks he's not good at he should do no worse than 4th or 5th. If he's getting only 6-8th on a consistent basis thorughout the season without signs of improvement then he should consider retirement and that's coming from a Rossi fan.

However it's quite harsh to say that if Rossi doesn't win the championship the first year back that it was a failure. I'm sure the haters will find ways no matter what happens to bad mouth Rossi. If he can be consistently on the podium and on occasion beat Lorenzo and Pedrosa then he'll have a successful season. Hope he get's comfortable and quick from the start.
