@ Chosen to ignore? Dude, where did I say Ducati's sales were positively impacted by Rossi? Simply stated their sales are highly unlikely to have been negatively impacted him. Not the same.

Fair enough. My apologies.

Rossi was hired to and he himself expected to win on the Ducati and outperform Stoner "who wasn't riding hard enough".

This had little to do with bike racing. Ducati's investors wanted out and had been positioning the company for a sale long before Rossi was a possibility. They too figured he would win and his personal brand would elevate Ducati and increase the share price. That is why they gave him an increase over his previous salary when Yamaha wanted to cut it in half.

It all backfired and Audi got Ducati at a 25% discount on the asking price. from an investor standpoint it was a low risk hedge bet that failed miserably.

I nearly bought a 996 right up to when I was pulling into the dealers, when it $hat its self and dumped coolant all over the rear tyre. Wouldn't consider one now.

"Phillip Morris is Ducati's personal sponsor. Are you telling me the 13 million couldn't have been used in a better way? "

CRT, I would say THOSE 13mil were invested by PM FOR Rossi, and did not come out of the Ducati pot (what PM has set aside for Ducati.

You are assuming those 13mil could have been used for something else by Ducati - I am assuming they could have not.

re: "narrow the V angle or start afresh with a more compact mill with the 90 degree vee in a more upright position?"

ffs, can we please have a thread where someone DOESN'T continue the mindless trend of "parroting" this crap...? ok one last time, narrow vees are garbage without a bajillion dollars pumped into 'em and ducati tried rotating the V and things only got worse. i've only been saying this for years and even after we received confirmation of this, it's still being brought up...? really...?

@ Shamarone Mate, get off your soap box and actually read the whole post, the first line " im not an engineer" " reached its limit" I also said that Ducati have backed themselves into an expensive corner with their choice of engine.

996...? geez, last production on that was '01. desmoQ's only 1 step away above a bevel head. 6 years in bike world is parallel to 6 years in computer world. enough time for 2 wholly new engine configs, testa and evo testa. P8, P6, and 1.6 ecu's...? eeproms...? that's ancient, even without the coolant burp.
