Well said @bolerobob, good point and the stat that is conveniently often ignored but will likely be the most important one people remember in years to come. Also often ignored is the fact Lorenzo won 2 championships in those seven years too. Most Rossi fans don't dispute the fact Stoner is a great rider, they just don't buy this whole "Stoner smashed the competition in his time in MotoGP" BS because of the championship stats above.

@Wylie, just wanted to pick up on your comment about how many parts Rossi received for the Ducati. The bashers really like to oversimplify things. There is no evidence at all (based on Rossi or the other Dcuati riders' results) that any of the parts actually led to significant enough improvements to the bike. There is no way Rossi can be totally to blame for that.

You only have to look at the amount of upgrades the Ducati has had over the last two years.Whether they worked or not is a matter of conjecture, but they still came none the less, and at great expense.
What upgrades did Stoner get in comparison?
Very little. He even had to resort to fitting the forks from the 2009 bike to the 2010 bike in an attempt to cure the front end problem!
Thats how little Stoner was getting. But he still won races on the damn thing!
Did Stoner smash the competition?
Well given that for 4 of his 6 years on full factory bikes,he was riding the parts bin Ducati,i would have to say yes,he did.

The Rossi vs Stoner debate is similar to Schumacher vs Senna.

Whilst Rossi had the most success and a much longer career, its assumed Stoner is the more naturally gifted, faster rider.

@the same guy with different
names....laguna08 was epic, for
Vale's race craft. beating a guy
who's more than a sec fast
every lap. Vale's used to getting
elbowed off the track and still
come back and win the race,
that's the stuff hez made up of.
but ur hero(i'm respecting him)
couldnt even take somethin like
laguna 08. as far as LS12...ur
hero got a tailored made bike in
07, won the title, and pushed
ducati into darkness after that
for 3 years and handed it to
Vale...ask Mr Suzuki, HRC
Boss...who considers Vale as the
best racer...who says.."Vale
doesnt moan like other
riders...he just says fix this(coz he
gives precise feedback) and i'll
do the rest.." sorry to mess up
ur head pal...

-3rd,who knows what's happening to tyres durability after some laps which might keep the mystery of what happened to Casey's pace drop at LS 08 compared to FP or Qf-have u ever thought how rigid Ducati and how smooth M1 were by then?I think u never think any!
-Last,as to what Shuhei spoke out of his head is his own right.it's also his own right to hate Casey for putting down his huge offer and nothing we can do about it.What if Carmelo says Rossi is the most skillfull motogp rider ontheotherhand Ducati denys it?.I think u would jump like a 2 yer red baby!

FRom a friend who works in the paddock it is well known that Shuhei is extremely dissappointed and embarrised that Stoner turned down their offer and he will disapprove of any involvement by Stoner in HRC, so this comment is more policial than truthful.

If they really believed in Rossi they would have grab him for their team but they had no interest in him, that is a fact many wont want to hear but its a fact just the same.

As for Stoners greatest race, for me its when he showed Rossi that Rossi was right 80% rider 20% bike and with a bad bike he handed Rossi this a$$ many a time providing that if you are a RIDER you can win on a bad bike

More wins. More poles. More fastest laps. More lap records. More laps led. Won on two different bikes. Won on every circuit. Only one stat that compares and that is World records and only because they occur once a year. Simple mathematics. Stoner thrashed Rossi. As for picking on Boner's comprehension, read his post. Anybody who says "U r not good at this mate..try somethin else.." is fair game.

@all stoner haters

HRC got disappointed to VR's pay rise demand where he said it was 80 prcnt rider and 20 prcnt bike which only shows how patheticly greedy and disgratefull he is.
whereas,in Casey's case,HRC did offer yet he politely refused as he saw it wasn't the main reason he got into motogp race which was to be fast and win races as long as things with racing come naturally with its due technology evolution.don't get excited already to jugde him that he is TC-dependant boy again.Look back his Premier debut with LCR with the team background, there you'll find ur claim holds no air in it!.

I am a fan of both riders, but you can't really compare Stoner to Rossi, they are completely different persons and different riders. However you can compare they results and if you do that, everybody can read the stats, Rossi is up by large, and that's it. For me it doesn't matter who have more years in the sport or whatever, just when they both finished racing you can draw line and see who won most. Talking about who is better on a given day, or hour, or month it doesn't really matter, in terms who is better overall, even though it is the most important thing, who is faster today.
So for me, it's simple, regardless of when they raced or who is younger or whatever, if you want to compare someone to Rossi, that guy needs to win what Rossi won, or at least come close to what Rossi won, only then you can compare them. And as we see, no one is close to that results. Anyway, another thing is if you read this article, about Stoner six of the best, it is quite ridiculous, it's not the races a
