We can assume all who comment here have actually watched the events they pass judgement on and if so they have seen motocycle history with their own eyes, its such a shame their minds can't appreciate the visions presented, such talent, bravery and sometimes tragedy. These riders have devoted their lives to this sport and some lackeys have the audacity to criticise from the comfort of the keyboard. The best has left but the best remain for they are all holier than thou.

@ Andrew

The figures for Hailwood inlude wins in the minor classes As stated in the senior gp class also he had 4 championships in the senior 5 in minor grades

the stats were for senior class only yet a bit like Stoner on the Ducati He rode the honda (won on the mv) it was a bit like the ducati of today handled like a pig Hailwood was really the only rider who could ride it successfully Hailwood versus Agostini was a bit like Stoner versus Rossi Hailwood retired to F1 racing at 28 Agostini went on to win 5 more world championships I don't think Rossi will be that lucky......though with pedrosa lorenso and Marques :)

@shamarone
Hahaha..i find your comment is either interesting or amusing..and i don't even think it was baiting..
I simply wouldn't wanna talk about the reasons why he retired..
and it can't be more unnecessary to do that..
Anyway thx mate

@decron
legend is an over used word these days
I have been watching bike racing since the mid 70's and have seen guys you can call legends
as stated here by others 8th,1st,4th,4th,1st,3rd doesn't make a legend.

@shakennstirred.
there is more to a legend than titles my good man.
what makes a legend is how one captivates the people with a unique skill that is displayed every time one enters the arena , stoners feats of raw displays of speed and skill that produced more victories than his rivals during his time in the top class .
stoner lifted the pace to the red line when he came along , and on a ducati to boot , it took everyone by surprise and forced everyone to try to get to the same limit with only a few being able to ride a whole race distance up there with him.
his pace being so high it made motogp a two tier race with the term aliens coming into the pitcher .
that is clearly the legend of stoner and it is clearly recognised by his peers , even if not by you.

If i was casey on that day i would of said to rossi "man that was the best f***** race i've ever had, thankyou"

No prizes for guessing why you're not a top-class racer then.
