Not many people get paid to ride these days, they have to get personal sponsors.

Birdy posted this on twitter:
Full steam ahead with MotoGP plans now BSB is boxed off, loving the speculation about the potential British rider!

Don't know why so many people are down on Birdy, give the man credit he put his own money in and prized some out of Dorna, its his team and can do as he sees fit. He has been doing it a long time and kept going and supported a lot of young British riders, Scott Redding for one.

Seemed crazy to let Ellison go IMO.

Having said that, I'm reluctant to join in the general Birdy hate fest, at least he puts bikes on the grid- and sometimes those bikes are winning bikes in BSB.

birdies bikes will be ridden by who the gp organisers tell HIM who he can have on them . and will pay him to be on the grid . They will have probably told him that shakey was too old as well .

Some folk are forgetting that Michael suffered some nasty injuries in 2011, I think, as his brother has, he could compete, Good Luck lad..

PBM need to get a top rider on the bike. Neither Ellison or Laverty have ever really looked top class even at BSB level. Shakey would have been the best choice available but you can't blame him for not wanting the grief, he has been on the international scene on poor equipment too many times. The best alternative now would be to get a young charger on the bike as the other CRT teams do, Gino Rea, Alex Lowes or Bridewell have the aggression needed.

Michael is an excellent choice and will probably have inside information on the Aprilia knowledge with Eugene and brother-in-law Phil who is Eugene's chief mechanic. Paul Bird aint stupid by no means....
