Michelle Pirro.
he wasn't on a Factory bike,
he wasn't on a Satellite bike,
he wasn't on a pseudo SBK factory CRT bike.

Because he gave it all on a bike that so unsuited to MotoGP, yet he continued to give it all.

Stop this crap about Rossi was on the same bike as Stoner and couldnt win. Even if it is true blind fanboys always forget that Yamaha and especially Honda improved their bike a lot compared to Ducati in 2011. Ducrapi was outdeveloped by a huge margin by the Japanese manufactures. Sure Stoner was the best Ducati rider by far. Much better than Rossi but no way he could win even a single race with that bike in 2011 and 2012.

Other thing is if we compare riders we should watch their whole carrier. With your logic Vettel is a much better racer and own Schumacher hard cause he won 3 wdc while Schumi couldnt even win a race in the last 3 years. Does this make Vettel the better driver overall? I dont think so.

I could easily vote either Lorenzo or Stoner(as both are my clear favorites), but in the end Pedrosa has my vote for ROTY. Why? To simpily put it, he has been very competitive this season and I expect him to be so 2013 if he keeps up this level of consistency.

If the question is Rider of the Year then sorry Dani is out as he only came into light for half a season but a very good half season at that.

If we look at the whole year its Lorenzo
If we look at it from a race attendance its still Lorenzo

If we put commitment and never give up its a 3 way bet, Dovi, Cal and Stoner

These three riders gave it their all at every race, Stoner rode like a Champ one day after his accident.

Cal showed that the Poms may have a Champ in the making

Dovi showed what a committed Italian can do on a lesser bike.

All subjective and thats why they ask the question.
Why Rossi or Spies have been mentioned is beyond me, this season they showed up to a gun fight with a lollipop attitude

Crutchlow is a LONG way away from ever taking a championship. 2 podiums is not really a convincing arguement for that. if you look at the progress he's made while in motogp, all i can give him for 2013 is being a more consistent podium threat at best. He won't be winning any races this year.

@ Hemmy
You kind of missed my point that @Sliderules was saying back-to-back championships were not important, managing to win championships with a gap between them was. My point is Rossi has done both.

You are right Rossi did not win a championship on a Ducati and may have swapped an earlier title for this, BUT neither did Stoner win back-to-back championships on arguably the best bike on the grid (Repsol Honda), which Rossi did manage (Yamaha). Similar to your question about Rossi, would Stoner and his fans have wished him to finish his career as back-to-back world champ?

If you are going to apply an argument to one rider, please apply it to the other too.

gawd the VR fanclub is out in force to make something out of nothing. Reality check - If everyone on a ducati were on the same spec Honda, VR would have lapped about a second faster per lap at most tracks. But on the Ducati, he was often NOT the fastest ducati rider. Please team Yellow, try not to forget that most important fact. Barbera would best him if Hector had the same factory Duc bike/support, that too is a fact. And Hayden was at times faster. So VR gets a deserved 0 for rider of the year. He blamed the bike, team dream got what they asked for and did not improved it at all, shoulder, leg, haircut, whatever and then he quit the team. All facts.

A season of 2 half's. JL the stand out rider in 1st half, DP the stand out rider in 2nd half.

JL deserved it though. Quite a simple decision really. You don't win a world championship if you don't deserve it.

"Barbera would best him if Hector had the same factory Duc bike/support, that too is a fact.

You say "IF" and than call it a fact. Thats just dumb.

FACT is Rossi Fans and Stoner Fans and any other fans will never see eye to eye on who the best is.
Matter of fact LOL
