How can rider of the year NOT go to lorenzo?! Never again in the history of the sport will a rider (who finishes a race, he only didn't finish 2, one was bautistas fault) not be 1st or 2nd for the ENTIRE season! never has it happened before or never will ever happen again. period.

"And those facts and stats show that stoner has done better than Rossi. He has leveled him on titles with 2 each, and has beaten him on every single meaningful stat."

2 WC each, rossis back to back (with stoner present and already 1 WC to his name) while stoners have a 3 year gap...fact.

Rossi finished ahead of stoner on points 4 of 7 years...fact.

Stoner has more wins that rossi head to head...fact.

@hemmy, stoner has not beaten rossi on all "meaningful" stats as "meaningful" is your opinion driven by emotion.

According to the "meaningful" stats I look at (listed above), stoner is at best, nipping at rossis heals.

@Hemmy...and dont try to discredit the back to back title thing. Stoner being "all that" and more couldnt achieve that feat so it takes some doing wouldnt you say?

Dont forget the context either...stoner near or at the height of his powers while rossi was on the downward trend.

@dave, sure rossi was on the downward trend but would stoners success on the ducati vs rossi's complete and utter failure not overshadow rossi's back to back titles? I mean stoner had how many wins on even his worst 2 years with ducati compared to rossis grand total of 0. I'n not saying only rossi couldn't make it work, no one could but stoner! that really says something about a rider to be able to have the success he did on that bike when NO ONE else on the grid came close to what he was doing his ENTIRE career with ducati. Makes me wonder if in fact he WAS on the best bike, why no other ducati could come close to him.

Let's say Hayden can be considered the Ducati barometer when comparing the Rossi/Stoner performance difference.

Expanding on the "Teamate" article..

2010 - after 4 yrs on the bike, Casey outscored Nick who'd had 2yrs in 11/18 races, a margin of 4.

2012 - after 2 years on the bike, Val outscored Nick who'd had 4 years in 12/18 races, a margin of 6.

There is one major flaw in that analagy Wosi.
Stoner won races on the Ducati whilst beating Hayden.Rossi did not.
There is a big difference wouldnt you agree?
Not bashing,just stating.

Aah..but Hayden finished a lot closer to the front in 2010 as well.

While Ducati have made improvements with the frame and tilted back motor, the competition have improved further leaving them sniffing fumes.

Casey crashed 5 times during the races in 2010..he was breaking his balls to put that bike at the front when the gap to the Japs was less.

Fairplay to the kid for his efforts, he proved it was him that made the difference..but I don't go along with the school of thought that reckons he would have taken the Carbon Fibre 1000cc bike to wins 2011/12 had he stayed.

More like he'd have ended up in hospital.

Wosi I'd have to disagree with you im sure if stoner was with ducati he would have managed at LEAST at MINIMUM 1 win and would have been on the podium a LOT more than just 3 times. we will never know however. the rossi-stoner arguement goes 2 ways: either rossi's reputation has been ruined or stoner deserves to be given credit for his talent as a rider. sounds like you are picking the latter which I also think

I don't think it's as simple as the two options you give jerginz..

Clearly Audi don't think so either as they fired Preziosi from GP and made great efforts to keep Rossi.

Stoner comes out of the Ducati debacle with credit for his ability but..he got beat by Dani this year on the same bike which, depite his undoubted blinding one-lap pace, shows he was not perhaps the best at putting a season together.

You reckon Stoner would have won on a Ducati 2011/12..I say Rossi would probably have won on the bike 2009/10 and almost certainly 2007/8.

Like you say though..we'll never know for sure, either way.
