MotoGP » Rossi: Stoner 'started to hate me' after Laguna 2008

“Stoner started to hate me just because he lost. After that, he always seemed to talk about the past, this race [Laguna], because he wasn't man enough to understand that at that time, he lost!” – Valentino Rossi.

very true Vale
Casey never accept defeat in laguna
it was very high end battle that he lost and proved that vale is superior.
May be few do not agree but its for sure Vale mental strength and in-racing tactics is superior to all.

Only lorenzo was able to tolerate it for some time but in late 2009 he too got victim of it and had series of of fall in very important races that caused him title in 2009

Whether Rossi is right or not in his assessment of Stoner, is it really necessary to say it publicly? Especially now that Stoner isn't around to defend himself, whether on the track or off?

fkn hilarious... that was an all time great race, and I love re watching it. Stoner should have won, but Rossi dominated him mentally with his race craft.... once Rossi put the move on Stoner in the corkscrew, Stoner had the red mist spewing from his helmet lol... Stoner defeated himself in that race by losing his composure, and letting the demon ride his race....

Another great Rossi, Stoner battle was the 2010Portugal race, where they battle the last laps, Rossi takes 2nd and beats out Stoner... what a great race that was ....

Stoner won a title on a PIG that could not turn. Rossi didn't even win a race on that same further developed PIG. They darn near put wings on the PIG for Rossi. I love Rossi, the best ever overall, but Casey was the better rider the last 5 years.

I find this whole comparison thing tiring. The only real determiner of a sportsman's 'greatness' is longevity (ask federer), and Rossi's proven this whereas stoner has cut short (to save face, perhaps?). Yes rossi didn't win on duc however people forget he picked up this turd in his twiglight years after crashes etc,...he didnt need to, but doesn't avoid challenges... whereas stoner was in his prime and could physically ride as he pleased. Also rossi is both critical and applauding of other riders in equal measure...

All those slating Rossi for bringing this up do you really think he did that of his own accord? The interviewer probably fed him a leading question and he said what he thought. Stoner is/was a fantastic rider, unbelievably talented but he didn't like it when people got in his face, and made him fight wheel to wheel like Rossi did that weekend.

Stoner thought that race was going to be a stroll in the park beforehand, he'd won three on the bounce and he was so quick in practice and qualifying, Well Valentino showed him a thing or two about race craft and the little whinger couldn't handle it. Yes Rossi couldn't ride the Ducati, no one could like Stoner but if Rossi is beaten by a better rider on the day in a hard battle he will give credit where its due, instead of complaining which is Stoner's go to response.
