Cal surprised me this year, he's improved a lot.
He would have come sixth in the championship too, if he hadn't have run out of fuel at motegi.

He was often in the thick of the action, the season would have been less entertaining without him.

If he keeps this momentum he might do even better next year.

It's true that if you think about Tech 3 you think about Cal first and then about Dovi who sort of did his work effectively but in the background.

just a few months...

It takes raw speed, race craft, a good bike and team to put together a proper championship challenge.
And the guts to accept the pain, the risks, the jet lag, the critisizim and politics involved in racing.
Casey has all in the first paragraph, but has lost the ability to handle parts of the second paragraph. Which is why I dont think he should be in the top 10 here which is a pole about who has racer spirit..

Cal bucket loads of racer spirit and deserves his position

@Vilas, yes the championship position is whats matters at the end of the season, but it does not always tell the full story.

There are always if's and but's, but certain things are out of the riders control, which in my opinion should not go against the rider. For example, IF Cal did not run out of fuel he would have been ahead of Rossi. So you would then say he's performed better than Rossi? His performance did not change whether he ran of of fuel or not. His points tally did, but his performance and deternination didn't.

Cal has been faster than Rossi in just about every race? Do you agree?

Saying that Rossi's Ducati is 'not as good' as Cals satellite yamaha does not hold any water. The Ducati's results went downhill when Stoner left. It's the rider that makes the difference (Rossi's words, not just mine).

Dovi got 3rd last year, but he wasnt the 3rd best rider out there. Pedrosa was still faster, and better than Dovi, although the standing out Dovi 3rd. See, it does not tell

....... See, it does not tell the whole story. Rossi did a Dovi this year. kept circulating and collecting points. That does not make him faster or a better rider than Cal this season.

This is the whole point of this poll. It's hard for some to understand i know, but its an opinion poll based on many other things, not just the final standings.

"Saying that Rossi's Ducati is 'not as good' as Cals satellite yamaha does not hold any water"

Lol!

Once the 2013 starts, either Dovi and Spies will do at least as well as they did in 2012 on Yamahas (not hard for Spies!), and Rossi will do better on a Yamaha than he did on a Ducati (Ermmm... you honestly think he won't?), your point is very daft!

I think most people would agree that the Tech 3 Yamaha was better than the factory Ducati in 2012. Dovi Vs Crutchlow will answer your question in 2013.

. The only way

CRASH, how about a vote on whether people consider race wins more important than championships? I know I remember individual races much more than where riders end up at Christmas. Sure I remember who won but it tends to be somewhat of an anticlimax.
Maybe the points system doesn't reward wins enough, what about points for quali?
Cal did good, poms should be proud, he needs to tidy up his style a little though.
The poll is interesting, shame it's ruined by fans that got an F- for reading and comprehension in classroom number forty-six.

okay guys, lets not forget Cal has 1 more year on an M1 than Dovi, and everyone is talking about how Cal improved so much from last year. You have to believe Dovi would have been able to use the data from a year prior to construct even better setups and over all speed. And lets not forget Cal's token Brit status in the Spanish championship (reality call.)

Kudos to Cal for making the podium and showing us he has the speed, but dont think for a minute Dovi had an advantage in setup or priority.

Cal is gonna have to fight hard to keep the level hes at because Honda are just gonna get stronger and that means Tech 3 are gonna slide backwards in terms of potential/setup. Please dont put Cal on too much of a pedestal. Dont forget what happened to Toseland his last year, the year after he had some reasonable results given the potential of the bike. Toseland at Qatar, Toseland at PI in his debut year, strong racing, and it all went to sh*t when his setup/confidence disappeared. Cal doesnt h

... have some of the problems James did, but hes still gotta get his head wrapped around being more deliberate about his strategy and attacks otherwise hes gonna have problems when Tech 3 start going backwards, which is going to happen.
