Great to see Dani finally getting the recognition he deserves. I remember seeing him at Laguna in 2009 where he put 8 seconds on the field. The three grandstands in front of the finish line were totally silent(except for me) when Dani crossed the finish line....this was of course the height of Rossi mania and all the punters had all come to see Rossi win, and just were in shock when he didn't! Dani cleaned his clock! When Dani is on form he is unbeatable. He really deserved the championship this year with his 7 wins. Go for it in 2013 Dani!

Dani has had another great year, but how quickly people forget. Here's how the season played out for Dani.

Until Sachsenring, he was looking decidedly down-beat on the podiums and a clear second-best to Casey. Even at Sachsenring (which is Dani's best track), Casey was clearly faster and binned it trying to find a way past.

But when Casey breaks his ankle (again after showing much greater pace than Dani for the weekend), Dani suddenly looks the goods again. Weird.

Not saying he isn't an alien or awesome, because he is. But he only looked good once his team mate was injured.

Jorge was clearly the rider of the year (YMMV).

Daniel Pedrosa raced Rossi for seven years and beat him in 4 of those years, decide for yourself who's better.

That is one way of looking at it. Here are some alternate views.

Pedrosa raced Rossi for seven years. Rossi won 3 world championships to Pedrosa's none during that period, decide for youself who is better.

Pedrosa has been on a competitive bike for 7 years and not won a title. Rossi won 3 titles in 5 years on a competitive bike, 3 in 7 if people want to act like the Ducati is a competitive bike when Stoner isnt riding it.

Stoner being better than Rossi right now is a fact but to say that Pedrosa has been better than Rossi over the last 7 year perioud is a joke. The last 2 seasons yes and you could argue that Pedrosa is better than Rossi right now also.

Pedrosa had a great season, but lets not forget that this is his first time in 7 seasons that he has put in a title challenge. Next season will be interesting.

I voted Dani top. I can't really disagree too much with those of the opinion that Jorge should have won, but this poll is based on opinion, not championship standings.

In the first half of the season the Hondas had bad chatter issues with the new tire choice suddenly imposed. Stoner slightly outperformed Dani at first, but Casey is known for his ability and willingness to push a bike with handling issues. Nevertheless he did bin it a few times.
Jorge made the most of the Yamaha's initial compatibility with the tires.

After Germany Dani made hay, but with Casey sidelined for a few races and no depth of field (ie no other rider capable of beating Jorge except Casey) this made it impossible for Dani to make up more than 5 points per race.

More than anything, I was impressed by Dani's ride at Valencia.

I voted Jorge tops but Ivor pretty much sums up the situation. There is certainly a lack of depth at the front. A sad state of affairs made sadder by Stoners' retirement. Hoping Rossi can bounce back, but have my doubts. All eyes will be on Marquez next season.

even though I consider myself a stoner/lorenzo fan, pedrosa rightly deserve the honor of ROTY. If anything, here is hoping that he steps up his game in 2013.
