How 2013 Factory Yamaha team-mates Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi compare in the premier-class

JK

I was not trying to be an a**. Of course I exaggerated to show that stats can be manipulated but it does not translate to who is better.

As I said Vale defeated both Casey and JL in successive seasons... should we ignore that stat as well because in my book that stat is most relevant seeing that no other rider in the last 12 years has even accomplished those feats including JL.
So who is better is a matter of opinion.
They only raced together for 3 years on the same equipment in which time Rossi has 2 world titles to JLo 1.....
but even that might not be fair because JLo was a rookie in his first year... so the comparisons are irrelevant in any fact. You are still using JLo's whole career (4 years) to a PART of Rossi's career..is that fair?
Again people will pick the stats that suit their reasoning!

Miffy......'You cannot compare 2010, Lorenzo had no challengers. Ped injured, Stoner on the Ducati, Rossi injured, only Lorenzo was left.'

Ok Miffy, so if you want to play it like that, then at least use the same way of thinking to Rossi.

Going by your way of thinking, Rossi had no challengers for both his titles in 2008 and 2009 then, right?

2008 - Stoner on Ducati, Pedrosa injured, Lorenzo injured (and a rookie), only Rossi was left.
2009 - Stoner on Ducati, Pedrosa injured, Lorenzo injured, only Rossi was left.

Right? Thought not because it doesnt apply to Rossi does it.

Double standards. Seriosuly, why are these Rossi fans so poor at trying to prove a point that only exists in their own minds. I put it down to the yellow haze.

Please brother get off it!

Why would I need to make Rossi look good when he did that all by himself.

It is the reason he is back on the Yamaha!! but you made me laugh.

Rossi would not give up his 2008 & 2009 title for a win on the Ducati! You must be joking...LOL
But let us stick to fair comparisons JLo has been sitting on the factory Yamaha his whole time Rossi has not... so wouldn't a fair comparison be when they were on the same equipment...everyone is always saying let us see Casey and Rossi together on the yamaha to finally decide..so why is this comparison different. On the Yamaha Rossi has effectively and resoundingly beaten Lorenzo (TWICE).. Lorenzo won a well deserved title in 2010 (but a question mark still hangs there.....)

Interesting that they left rossi's ducati years out of the equation, probably wouldn't have left it out if he had gone as well on ducati as he did on Yamaha?

It also begs the question that if you wanted to compare Rossi and his nemesis (won't mention his name!) you could only choose years they were both on factory non ducati machinery -oops never happened

maybe then you could average out the nemesis results on the ducati only and compare it to the average results of Rossi on the Ducati - may not be all that different - in terms of points anyway but big difference in terms of wins/podiums.

Just goes to show you can prove any point of view with statistics.

@J is it really that relevant to compare Lorenzo's first years on a moto gp machine with Rossi when he had several years experience, this year will be a better comparison both fit and on the same bikes.

@ cockroach
So stoner would have liked to race 2 strokes and doohan said he would be great, your point is caller ?
I would have liked to have raced 500s as well and my mate billy said I'd have been brilliant.
Both points are as irrelevant as each other, especially in a post about Rossi and Lorenzo.

"For a good comparison they should put Lorenzo on a ducati for the next two seasons :p

I have a better idea. Lorenzo should block Yamaha from giving Rossi any updates for the next 2 years and let's see how good Rossi really is.

The Ducati years are going to level the stats significantly, since Rossi did basically nothing... A fair comparison would be to compare their first five years in the class... How quickly people forget what a phenom Rossi was, and how he brought excitement back into this sport. All those last lap battles he has been involved in...he made watching moto gp fun. He was the only reason many people came to watch, to loathe him or love him, because win or lose they knew it would be a good race. Now, it's a yawnfest....

Wrong.

YAMAHA RACING does not want the yellow prima donna back. They have been forced to deal with Rossi because of sponsorship money.
