@ Stat Dude....Easy Peasy

Hailwood, Read, Roberts, Rossi, Doohan.

Ago is definitely NOT included. Can't fault him as a rider, it's just that he had no competition. 90% of his GP rides were exhibition demonstrations. Lapping the 2nd place finisher. Lapping the 3rd place man twice, etc etc.

Motojunky.
If the 2007 Ducati was so superior to all other bikes, why did Capirossi finish nearly 200 points behind Stoner riding an identical bike?
Your answer please.
And whilst your at it,why did the so called greatest of all time fail to get a single victory on it in 36 races?

there a lot off people saying how ducati nobody can ride it like stoner., if we look back the only who could ride the yamaha m1 2004 2005 2006., 2007,.who won on that bike? com on people!! i like stoner he is great, his style is unbilivable., but rossi also did what stoner did so dont see the point., surley ducati will make progress and there riders will win evantullay., that dosent mean that he has more talent than rossi, that means that 2007duc + bridstone + and of cures the most important factor rider stoner =WC 07., better than yamaha + michelin + rossi 3rd by one ponit in the championship., so what., the only way to be fair wolud to give rossi 22 agin and stoner 22 on the same bike honda nsr500 rcv211 ( becuse honda best bike no argument ) and we would see that cant happen so every body had an era now is a era of new kids., ., it was just stoners time and that it!! Vale had a good (amazing) run for 14 years of cures someone will betean/beta him and it nothing wrong with that, is s

A good way to look at how good Stoner was is Phillip Island....The fastest track on the calender and owned by Rossi until Stoner came along.

Even if you say he had a rocket ship in the 2007 Ducati how do you explain his next 3 wins on a bike that some people say he made worse each year....I guess that means Rossi wasnt that good then, even with the Yamaha and was beaten by a inferior rider on a inferior bike.

The fact is most of the real racing fans appreciate talent and know it when they see it....Stoner was talent and some of the greatest riders and commentators said it and he had to win against more World Champions than any other rider in the modern era.

@ stat dude and codger
Agree about Agostini- no real competition, but he did do some good stuff on the Yam500-not enough to be on my list though
Hailwood was of course outstanding, probably the only real competition for GOAT with Rossi. The reason I didnt list him was he was slightly before the modern era, though maybe he and the Honda 4s and 6s should be included.
Agree that Doohan didnt have a lot of competition, but he came back from and rode with awful injuries and disabilities.
We havnt even mentioned men like Nieto and Dunlop yet

For me the only statistic that matters is in the 7 years Stoner raced in MotoGP he won 38 races, nobody else won that many. Did he have great machinery? Of course he did, you don't win as many races as he did with crap bikes.
Why did nobody else have as much success as he did with Ducati in 2007-2010? Simple, because they didn't try hard enough. Same goes with the Rossis teammates at Yamaha from 2004-2007, they didn't try as hard as he did, he just like Stoner put his **** on the line more and got better results than his teammates.
That's the difference between good riders and great riders, great riders take it to the edge(sometimes beyond) and none was greater than Mike Hailwood
