Rossi's target is to win another WC before he retires. He knows that this year that won't be likely as he needs time to adapt back to the bike, lose whatever bad habits might have picked up riding the Ducati and get to feel confident on the bike again, so he knows that in the first part of the seaso Lorenzo will be faster than him. I can't wait for the testing results next week.

@Motojunky...that's your perspective, but just because you believe it, doesn't mean it's right. Rossi was going to be the first to win the title with three separate manufacturers.

His first few laps on the Ducati must have been "disappointing". As a Ducati fan, they were for me.

But he's back at Yamaha now. Let's see how good he is on equal terms. If he's as good as you say, he'll be world champion in a canter. He isn't too old, he has no lingering injuries, he's on a winning bike, he has the same skills, and the best crew. There's nothing to stop him.

I wish him well, but I only really expect more theatre and PR.

Pedrosa and marquez will be favourites i think to win or podium 2nd at qatar. They will both have a weight advantage and the honda goes well there. That leaves rossi and jorge scrapping for 3rd. Rossi and jorge could podium if marquez decides to leave the track. Thats my prediction.

@LCTanner - The weight advantage only really helps them get off the line. Getting the power down early and smoothly out of the corners means more after that. That's much more complex than a mere weight advantage.

Plus, being bigger, Rossi has a strength and stamina advantage for late in the race, so on that basis, he should really dominate. He's on the championship winning bike now.

Yamaha has the best electronics package. Honda has a better gear shifter. Honda has a bit more power, but still has some chatter problems. Yamaha handles better, and is easier on the Bridgestones. Overall they're not far apart now.

Gotta say that I pretty much agree with TrueFan's post.

I've actually agree with LCtanner (& that HAS to a a 1st!) that this year's w/c has to have Pedrosa as the favourite.

As for the rest... well I really think that Lorenzo can beat Rossi on the same bike - the wild card is Marquez. I reckon if the Yamaha isn't eclipsed by the Honda then I think JL will be up front with DP.

As for Rossi / Marquez? Well, Rossi SHOULD be able to beat MM in his rookie year. I have no idea how MM will go, & am not convinced yet he'll be as amazing as so many think. So for me its DP, JL, VR, then MM in 2013. No-one else has the equipment to compete unless one or more of these 4 make mistakes or have trouble.

My prediction was for the qatar race only not the wc. I dont think dani will win the wc any time soon. His attempt at philip island last season exposed his flaws when put under pressure and thats not the first time thats happened. I think the wc will be between jorge and rossi with mm being the unknown in all of it. When rossi's mojo kicks in its gunna be WW III for yamaha and lorenzo, then what will lin jarvis do? He said lorenzo was the priority for yamaha. Well according to Furasawa he's expecting fireworks from the off. Whatever happens 2013 is brewing up to be a classic.

@ LCtanner "Whatever happens 2013 is brewing up to be a classic."

Only if your only interest is in seeing how Rossi, Marquez, Lorenzo & Pedrosa do aginast each other on the factory HRC / Yams, then there is some interest.

However, when you should have a field of over 20 riders with the equipment to be able to compete, not 4, then 'classic' is hardly the right term for MotoGP 2013 IMO.

Anyone out there believe that anyone other than the 4 mentioned have a real chance of competing for the WC?

Nope, thought not. (You'd be mental if you did).
