Of course they're chasing a moving target. Without working harder than Yamaha and Honda they will never close that two second gap. They have the engine for sure but need massive improvements elsewhere.

re: "Ducati need to scrap the 90 degree 'L' twin config of the engine. It's so outdated and old fashioned now. Bring the angle in closer to 75 degrees and they should see the improvements in handling."

re: "There is not one big, big problem and if we fix that we can fight for victory."

translation: everyone shut their pie holes about the narrowing of the V already. we've been simulating it for months now. it ain't the smoking gun.

for all the keyboard engineers, it's been recently established that HRC also uses an 90 deg V so please put the narrower V engine theory to rest...

They know that a new engine is needed, whether it is an 'L' or a 'V' is not the main decision to be made. The whole problem centres around how the engine is mounted to allow the pit crew to make adjustments to the swing arm length, C of G, weight transfer on braking and acceleration, to name a few.
All the pit crews since 2008 have exhausted all the trackside modification possibilities and Gobby has told them all to start from a basic configuration. This will give them 4 sets of data to work from and the Engineers will know what is needed, (as if they don't already know). In 2007 the bike needed a fearless, aggressive rider to make the thing work. They had that in Stoner ( but not Hayden). After 2007 the 'improvement' in electronic aids effectively hobbled Casey and he drove himself into the ground trying to ride round them.
