"I made two laps behind Dani [Pedrosa] and it is always interesting to follow a faster rider to get the right feedback. The main problem is the turning" - Andrea Dovizioso.

Interesting comment from Dovi. The Ducati is known to understeer "the bike wants to go straight". Unfortunately understeer is a fatal flaw. To correct your line you need to either increase the lean angle or the steering angle. Both increase the load on the front tire. If you are on the limit, you will lose the front end. Result: you can't enter the corner on the limit with a bike that understeers. Racing motorcycles must be designed to oversteer. This is Ducati's flaw.

The bike is a handful for riders of any caliber it seems and with no obvious way to correwct anything with the performance flaws in sight. It would appear that Ducati do not have their heart truly in the top flight as splashing cash on big names isnt the same as investing, refining, and if it doesnt work then ultimately replacing the design flaws or the bike as a whole and starting from scratch. The new guy in charge has done this at BMW and seen the efforts of his work come to fruition so it makes no sense that he would drag his feet when he should now have all the resources available to him to make the necessary changes for the duke to be competitive for the caliber or riders that he nnow employs.
