MotoGP » Sepang 'reality' for Valentino Rossi

"This is the reality. The first three guys are very fast - Lorenzo and Pedrosa, but also Marquez - and it looks like we need to improve" - Valentino Rossi.

I predicted he will finish 5th in this years championship.... All I have heard for 2yrs are excuse after excuse.... Even crutchlow will give him a run for his money this year. He will struggle....

was that test on 2011 tires or 2012 tires Not the Norm. I am beginning to think Honda are at least 3/4 of a second faster on the right tires. Just wait till Bridgestone build a Marquez special and all the 'masses' claim him the next MotoGP god. Lolz.

Top stuff...up to 4th at the end just .5 from pedro and in real terms, nothing splitting him and Jlo.

After a test where he has been working on traction and and tire life over race distance, i'd say in real terms, he is there with the other 3.

I won't predict he will win this or that but to predict he wont would be just as silly.

@Tetley I humbly disagree with your assessment. After 4 years riding the "Doncati" as you call it, Stoner took exactly three nanoseconds to adjust to riding a "thoroughbred". You are a true believer in Rossi's ultimate talent, yet think he needs so much more time? The truth is, Rossi took three laps in November 2010 to realise how good Stoner was, and he's been psychologically broken ever since.

Rossi's 0.4 seconds faster on the Yamaha than he was in this test on the so-called "Doncati" last year, and 1.8 seconds slower than Stoner was at that same test. On a Yamaha, that has no chatter issues.

He's right to be despondent. He knows that Lorenzo and Pedrosa have more in the tank, and he's finding it hard to catch them. Rossi will find this year difficult, even if he lucks in for a win or two. Perhaps you could explain it as the famous pre-season "mind games"?...

Rossi on level terms with Lorenzo is all that matters. Unless darkhorse Marquez comes up something very special this championship will be between Rossi and Lorenzo. Pedrosa has already proven to be no match for Rossi unless of course the Honda has advantage over the field like the 07 Ducati did then Pedrosa might have a real chance.
@ Reality- Actually Rossi has been exposed just like the many world champions that tried before him...he's been exposed to a un-rideable, uncompetitive pile of parts Ducati.

to be fair to Rossi, the bike hes on isn't the best thing out there, and its very particular in how it needs to be ridden. Even B.Smith says that the bike demands a certain kind of 'style.' This style is what broke Spies last year and limited the potential of Dovizioso. Rossi also a late braker will find this bike hard to tackle, unless he learns how to ride like Lorenzo. Rossi, Marquez and I believe Cal both went out in the last few minutes and set their best laps to catch better finishing positions, while Dani and Jorge left early.

Now that Rossi has Jorge's bike, with Jorge's front tire, hes going to find it difficult to compete with him, Cal, Dani and maybe Marquez. Cal will have problems keeping pace with the factory bikes, as all satellite bikes do, Honda I feel have much more potential, but either through the front tire or chatter, or some other reason, they are not showing their true potential.

Jarvis messed up by getting YFR to build a bike around Jorge I feel. As it was o

.... As it was only ever in its own before Honda figured out BStone's new tires.
