Like Jorge stated, this track seems difficult to learn, esp given that there's only 5 bikes to clean the surface up & lay rubber down. A bit ominous though how Marc is so quick right off! This kid is going to heckle the vets something fierce this year!

Probably not too much to draw conclusions from at this point. They'll be working on numerous setup directions and dealing with the unknown layout/track surface. No point in trying to be the top dog here/now. An injury wouldn't bode well for anyone with the season opener approaching.

how can they get accurate data if you dont push to maximum.and how fast you really can go on this track, if you just circle around the track theres no need to go there inthe first place like ducati, they know their lavel so no need to compete with the top guy, but this title contender needs every data available to gain advantage,a ut every data have to be accurate how fast can they go to the maximum.

Even this early is very clear that the Hondas have a bit of a gap on the Yamahas, both Jorge and Vale admitted to. While it is undoubtly that Marc is super fast, lets not forget that ramdom quick laps do not translate to winning races, he still has a lot to learn and considering how challenging and long the track is, coming race time nobody nows really what's going to happen.
Initially I thougth that racing the Formula 1 layout was a good idea, but after listening to the riders and seeing how long the lap time is, I think it will be better to run a section that is 15 to 20 sec slower. The riders also don't seem to like the slow first gear sections that are more suited for Formula 1, but with out a doubt the race is April will be really good, it will pose a great challenge to all. Can't wait.

I agree you need to push it to find out where you stand, but this will prob only happen on Thursday. Setting up for sections like the uphill braking zone & the hardest braking chicane versus finding the best gearing for the long straight need to be worked out first. Thursday we'll know much more.

It does however show how quick mm is to adapt to tracks where everyone has no experience on... shows he's a very quick learner if nothing else. This is the race I think he has the best chance to win at during the first part of the season until he gets fully acclimated to the honda which should happen mid season.
