"We improved the lap time a lot from yesterday. We are closer, but there remains one second to the top and there are still some problems" - Valentino Rossi.

@ The Bad Guy

In 18 races we'll find out who is the best THIS YEAR. Until then, it's all conjecture!

@ TrueFan

Is the 200cc difference that big of a deal? Maybe...maybe not? Based on what Furusawa has said (among others), the bike is “more or less” the same. There hasn't been a revolution with the M1.

Funny that there's been a call for CS fans to stop posting the stuff of History, while all the time there are acres of posts using historical references to build up VR as the guy to really show them in 2013.

Hmmm. Nice to see there's the usual lack of balance and perspective then! Situation Normal (SNAFU as an acronym for the mindset of some perhaps?)

While perhaps we should admire the blind faith and support of Roman and his ilk, the fanaticism and effortless ability to discount other riders and other pertinent information and form is (for me) somewhat disturbing.

2013 is a new season, so going on about 2006 or 2008 is really quite irrelevant to 2013 season. FWIW, I can't see VR getting above 3rd in the WC final standings (in a field of 4 with kit significantly better than anyone else. I don't KNOW this (as I don't have the crystal ball some seem to have). But that is what the form and pre-season so far suggest to me.

Roman.
Instead of trying to belittle Stoners efforts on the Ducati, why dont you try to give an explination as to why he was the only rider to have success on it.
He won races, got fastest laps and had many other podiums and pole positions on every variant of the bike that Ducati handed to him.
What is your explination for that?

@ 99

Don't you know anything? The Ducati was a championship winning bike until Rossi came on board, and it wasn't until 2011 that the Honda's and Yamaha's made leaps and bounds in thier machines. This is why Rossi couldn't even put the bike on the front row of qualifying or get a win, the RCV and M1 were too good. You see, Stoner developed the bike backwards........wait..........Ducati wouldn't listen to Rossi.......wait..........JB likes soup, yeah, that's the answer, soup.

The past is very much relevant in regards to Rossi's potential this year in that the last time he was on a competitive bike he was in the running for top spot. I see nothing to suggest that he won't be as fast(or faster) than Lorenzo this year. To suggest that he's "past it" is simply not warranted and I believe is only suggested by the anti-Rossi brigade(you know who you are). How he'll do against the Hondas is anyone's guess as they look (as always) very fast.
The bike Stoner inherited for 2007 was already a race winning bike and would've been a serious contender for the 2006 championship in Capirossi's hands if not for the crash. Stoner did have to ride the thing in 07 so good on him, well earned. The following years were littered with crashes and poor results so to suggest that Stoner was a player in those years on that bike is total bs. Sorry guys but it's true.

Would've been great if Rossi could of turned that team around but truth is his results on that pos were about what the world expected. Not losing sleep about that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Rossi can't at least match the other factory Yam this year then I do believe he has lost a bit of his speed. Everybody does at some point. No big deal.
