MotoGP » Schwantz 'sets the record straight' on COTA claim

"Let me set the record straight: I am the reason MotoGP is coming to Texas and no one currently associated with COTA had anything to do with the design of the actual race track" - Kevin Schwantz.

Why is no one even asking about DORNA's involvement in this, afterall they've screwed Schwantz over as much as COTA management!
Lie down with dogs, get up with Fleas and Ezpeleta is the leader of the pack.

It's more than a PR gaff. Their problem is that the press release stating his importance to the whole deal was issued by them (CotA). That small minded behaviour won't help them when they give their version of events. In lawyer-speak it "goes against their credit".

Of course, there may be other documents that confuse the matter, but there can be no doubt that KS's time, his rather rare expertise, and his "name" (and the doors it opens), were significant investments, and were likely fundamental to any deal being ultimately struck.

I smell BS at CotA, and that usually means there are A-holes involved. Carmello is of course ever the opportunist. and Kevin would not be the first (ex-) rider he has taken a dump on. But the action will no doubt be against CotA. They've taken the profit opportunity, and I suspect at some point they will receive less bullish advice when the process draws out further evidence.

Looking into my crystal ball, I expect that eventually, they'll settle. Kevin

Gixxer, the written proof is in the dealings with Dorna in the early days, It's the same in all walks of life, "it won't work, it won't work" & then hell it is going to work, i want some of this, we've got the money , money = power, give Schwantz & his team the old heave ho & we''ll have it all, Unfortunately for them Kevin's business grit appears to be like his racing grit, you want a fight you got one. i believe Schwantz, it was his dream & he made it happen, not the suits that think they are going to have the quick buck, good luck with it Kevin & i hope you take them to the cleaners go #34 go.

There will be CotA's version of events, and KS's version of events, and somewhere in between will be the truth. The fact that KS was world champion does not mean he is above embelishing the story. There is more to this than we are hearing about.

Money is making this ugly. I fail to see how Kevin should be receiving squat though (assuming he has received nothing thus far, I'm certain he was offered a paltry sum to go away).

I've shaken Kevin's hand, it was brittle from so many crashes. The man truly loves the sport, and the business is just another opportunity. CotA is going to have their hands full on this one. Racing fans are rabid (fickle after a few years fight perhaps, but those first few years are going to be hell). Without Kevin's endorsement, I can see CotA losing about 10,000 fans for the first few years.

Remember, the US is a huge place, and most people will be taking a plane, staying in a hotel, eating out, etc. That is costly. Makes the decision to stay home easier (That being said, maybe CotA will turn out the winner both legally and fan based, but I doubt it).

Kevin is going to have to fight COTA really hard. They have deep pockets and own and mingle with every attorney, every judge and every history re-writer in the state. He's in a head on fight with some of the dirtiest politicians and investors in the USA.

The story is as old as capitalism! Someone (Helmund) comes up with a great idea, solicits expert input from close friend, world champion and industry icon (Schwantz) with enough clout in the industry to give the thing some teeth. Then the first guy takes on “financial partners” (McCombs and Epstein) who know nothing other than cash is king, who subsequently excise the first party. In doing so the two decide that they no longer need the services of the expert and excise him as well and then backdoor his deal with the guys that own the series, whom they desperately want in order to generate revenue and offset some of their substantial capital investment.

They did this in Texas, where (I'm told) a man doesn't just let things like this slide! Ol' Red and Bobby may want to add some extra security or they might receive some good old Ted Nugent Style justice the hard way! Getting good now!
