Oh dear. I guess 23 wins on a bike nobody else could ride isn't THAT great of an achievement. Jumping on the Honda and getting 10 wins and winning the ship when pedrosa hasn't been able to do that since 06 isn't really all THAT impressive. Beating Rossi more times than he beats you isn't THAT great of an accomplishment.

The great Moaner was wc in 2007 at duc. the same bike that he rode when rossi won back to back wc in 2008 to 2009- it is hard to believe that he had beaten more rossi than rossi had beaten him. to give credence of your statement, the great moaner should had won 3 championships in a row. statistics of winnings do not lie.

No doubt that Casey was a great rider. No doubt that he proved to be the only one capable of winning with the Ducati. And no doubt that he proved it immediately on the Honda. When he started the premier class he practically handed an 800. With the smoother power delivery and electronic traction control, the bikes literally suited his style. But remember his first year in MotoGP on the 1000? He crashed so many times that people thought that he was going to fade away. Lucky for him, the bikes became custom tailored to him. He's no GOAT. He's an awesome rider. The best on the 800's. The best with electronics.

I really thought that all this Stoner is better than Rossi/ no he's not thing would stop when Casey left to go tin bashing. I also thought that everything that could be said about it....had been said. How wrong was I.

Here's a new slant on it. Stoner spent 7 years in the big class and finished in the Championship as follows :-

Stoner - 8th,1st,2nd,4th,4th,1st,and 3rd.
Rossi - 2nd,3rd,1st,1st,3rd,7th,and 6th.

Average ... Stoner 3.28th.
Rossi 3.28th.

So equal to nth degree !!

So argument over.
Or not!

There's still more practice & qualifying to go, so besting Casey's record is still possible. Another thing to consider is the fact that there is one less engine available, so tuning things down a bit for longevity will cause a slight decrease in performance. Different tire specs & weather should be considered as well. This is the first year they've run MotoGP first on the second day of practice too, so the track will be rather green, or should I say brown from the sand/dust accumulated overnight. Different year, different conditions/circumstances=different expectations.

Hey Codger, good statistics. But don't forget Primadona Flossi was always on factory machinery, whereas the Foat (fastest of all time) CS was, except for his stint at Honda on inferior machinery.

Here is statistic to compare both by.
VR has beaten Stoner on only 1 and the best ever make, the yamaha.so has JL.CS has beaten both on 2 different makes those are Honda (yes,it's also the best) as well as Ducati (relatively young team) in his relatively young years to motogp.
any clue?

HA ever the optimist ey?

I have a crazy idea, instead of looking backwards let's look forward to the new season with the riders who will be on the grid.

Will Spies actually manage to finish a race? (I hope so, yeah he had a s*** couple of years but I still think he is a good rider)
Will Marquez get a win in the first half of the season? (I have a bet worth a bottle of wine saying yes!)
Will we see CRTs leading more races?! (ok so Espargaro was pretty lucky with that but hopefully the gap will be smaller)
Are we going to see Lorenzo manage the podium every race this year? (he's been pretty close!)
Will it come down to the wire? (Let's hope so!!)
