I doubt the Stoner / Rossi debate actually can end 'cos we'll never really know.

Rossi (I think) is second only to Ago in terms of overall things won but Ago tended to have way better kit than the competition most (not all) of the time. Rossi didn't.

Then again as pointed out above, Once he hit his stride Casey kicked Vale's bum more often than Vale kicked his.

My suspicion is Rossi *could* be the GOAt for bikes without electronic aids & Stoner for with. But then Stoner was pretty good in the lower classes without too. Hell, we'll never know.

I like 'em both so sod it.

More immediately, much as I'd like to see Cal on the podium, expect the Hondas to sort out what's holding them back and feature strongly by race day.

If you want to compare riders of different ages you need to look at the results they got taking age into consideration. So from the age of 21 to 27 (when Stoner retired). Rossi won 5 WC and came 2nd the other two years. During the same age range Stoner won 2 WC and came 2nd once.

Rossi is on a different level. Then you take into consideration the fact that Rossi has won 125 and 250 WC + he came 2nd in his first year in 500s and was the last rider to win the 500 WC. For someone to think that Stoner was a better rider is completely ridiculous.

Stoner won on a Ducati with a big speed and tyre advantage. When he won with Honda both Lorenzo and Pedrosa were injured, that championship was a relative walk in the park.

Then Stoner bad mouths motogp and f***s off to play with cars. Good riddance I say.

Rant over. AHHHHHH.

Hey Haters, Stoner the moaner is retired if you haven't heard. He won the championship one year on the Duc when it had the power, electronics and tire advantage over other bikes. I Stoner was so great he would have had multiple champs while with Duc but instead he and the bike go progressively worse. He jumped ship to go on the Honda the best bike out there developed by honda/pedrosa and others plus he caught breaks with Jlo having issues and Pedrosa getting injured while Rossi was on that POS. Again Stoner is gone get over it. Good job Yam in this practice.

As this is only the first practice I wouldn't get to crazy with the results as the track will get better and the Honda guys will adapt so by qualifying I'd expect a few changes. But that said it's a good start and nice to see them so close.

King Kenny I agree with you there is no debate Rossi is in another league and Stoner can NEVER be compared to him. Rossi at this stage can only be compared to AGO. Maybe if JLo or other reaches a similar # of wins and championships then they can be compared to Rossi or Ago but not until then.
