@clu - Lorenzo had the right idea. He was on the track first, therefore the largest gap on the track belonged to him.

Exactly. Lorenzo is a world class rider on a world class bike. He backed himself to go out first on track and set a time that no one could beat. That is what Rossi should have done.

Lesser riders on lesser bikes, like Aleix Espargaro for example, try and follow faster bikes around to pick up the tow or study a faster line through the corners that the top riders might be using.

Unsurprisingly Marc Marquez in his first qualy in Moto GP tried to follow Pedrosa and it backfired. Forgiveable from a rookie but what the hell was Rossi doing in traffic?

He should have far too much experience and skill to need a tow from other riders or feel the need to steakl the few hundredths to be gained from being on the track right at the death when it has the maximum rubber.

It is truly embarrassing that he uses traffic as an excuse. Finding a gap is not rocket science these days whe

From all the negative comments here you'd swear the race happened tonight! It was 15 minutes of qualifying *****s! Rossi has led each practice for the first 45 minutes on the sakes set of tyres. That's racing distance ... and that's Sunday night! Keep your negative comment until the end of the racing season :?

Look new format and probably did not set himself up well for the final run home such is life. And yes well done to Jorge for being first out and can I say in the same situation that is exactly what I would have done. It is not clear from the coverage about traffic or whether Marquez effort destabilised Rossi's run. Also Rossi was third on the previous run and then you can see he was .256 and then it went out to .52 and then 1.01 so it was obvious something held him up. As for Dovi well done but to say this is the reality is a fetch.

I hope they adjust the format. With only 15 minutes, they all rush out to get in a fast warm up lap, followed by a couple hot laps. Then they all pit at pretty much the same time to do it all over one more time if their lucky. The limited time creates more traffic if anything, as there's only one way to maximize track time. Poor Hector didn't even get on track due to an electrical glitch or something. I'm not a fan of his, but it still stinks. They should stop all riders not in the top 10 after 45 minutes & give the top guys the track.
