Yes Rossi, did have the pace to pass Cal, but he also had the pace to pass both Hondas , fact is this year the factory yam, is miles ahead of cals bike, cals bike is a12 months old design , let's get real here, cal did a great job

The issue from the start is that Cal didn't get a good start which left hi stuck behind Dani. Cal was trying his best to get passed and just couldn't Dani was making this wide as poss. Even his team mate had problems getting passed Dani. so it's not Cal who can't over take.

When did Marc get past Dani mmmm let me think i believe it was on the staight was it not. cal clearly didn't have the straight line speed and couldn't get the power down out of the last corner like the Hondas or the factory Yams.
You could see the factory bike was keeping up with the Honda's on the straights.
The bike that Cal is racing is not the same as the factories bike. As stated the bike is the same as last year's so no real upgrades which the factory bikes get.
Cal did the best with what he had and was never really going to get higher then 5th with the factory bikes in front.

Also i think the Yamaha will be giving the Tech3 guys some new part soon. you could see the Factory guys during the race saying the the hondas were just pulling away cal. we can only hope they support cal and give some part and that way he can help fend of the hondas instead of just sitting behind them.

Cal's not lacking in pace compared to Factory M1s, its Honda's who have extra 5km/h on straight. The reason Rossi blew straight past them is he used slipstream to his advantage and passed them on brakes. Cal would do well to learn some of them maneuvers.

Hard facts and numbers don't carry much weight on here. Not when there's Brit fans involved!

Cal paid the price for his inability to pass the Hondas when they were holding him up in the parts of the track where his package was stronger. He had the pace for second place IMO. Rossi would show him how it's done later in the race.

@ Lex....

Nice stats but its not as simple as that is it.......they may be reaching a similar max speed but its also how they get there that counts.....the works Yamaha is getting off the final corner better than the old satellite bike, it's closer match to the Honda and can stay in touch enough to keep in the slipstream, whereas Cal's bike was dropped on the exit and never regained the distance lost. It's the exact same problem Lorenzo had last year so its no surprise Crutchlow is suffering the same as he's on last years bike......simple really.

Bit rich from Cal to have nine time world champion #46 under such low esteem I think.

"Would Jorge Lorenzo still win on my package? Yes, maybe - but that's him. Would Valentino Rossi or anyone else win on it? I don't think so. I think Lorenzo is what makes the difference at Yamaha but I'm confident we can do a good job on what we've got."

Cal's interview with BBC Azi Farni quoted verbatim from the BBC website.
