"after they were blown away by the 916 for its looks and performance"

AHAHAAH! I nearly p*ssed myself laughing at that comment!!! Performance on the 916? The looks? It looks like they stole some of the designs from the Japanese but stuck a refurbished "Harley" motor in it.

That's like saying a Ducati "Monster" is a great bike. It's a Monster. A Monster is ugly looks and ugly performance.

Ducati, my far measure, is the most ridiculous 2 wheeled monstrosity in motorcycling. "Let's keep making a 90 degree V4 when Honda's V4 is much more narrow (for better balance) and Yamaha uses an inline-4 which weighs the front better!"

The problem has always been the engine layout and configuration. Ducati, who's design to win is a lot less than their desire to do things their own way, is why they cannot compete with the Japanese.

Until someone at Audi puts their foot down, Ducati is always going to be a middle of the pack bike, regardless of who rides it.

@billybobmarysue I'd forgotten about the NR, but you're right, the NR had the single sided swing arm, pipes under the seat, and twin headlights before the 916. Somehow, the NR still managed to look ugly though - it looked like a touring bike with a single seat, too fat and too much plastic.

The 916 looked the business. Chalk and cheese.

I don't remember a Ducati MotoGP bike breaking down. They "just" have some handling issues.

@A great start and he really went for it but it's obvious the bike's just not good. Dovi is better than this
