MotoGP » Austin MotoGP: 'Great achievement' for Crutchlow, Tech 3

"To finish so close to Lorenzo and be ahead of Bradl and Valentino, who both tested here last month, is a great achievement for myself and the Team" - Cal Crutchlow.

It doesn't matter if the engine is identical in spec if the chassis can't put the power as effectively to the ground. The factory bikes grip better and wheelie less out of corners and that alone can make the difference.

Anybody thinking a factory bike isn't worth 0.2s per lap over a satellite machine is kidding themselves. There'd be no point in Yamaha running them otherwise.

Don-R (as usual) telling it like it is.

Despite the massive amount of information from reliable, well-informed and respected sources, plus the blindingly bleedin' obvious - our crayon-chewing friends (who mostly also suffer from severe yellow fever) keep trying to convince the world that a satellite Yamaha is as good as and equal to a Factory Yamaha.

These deluded folks see the world the way they want it to be - and either cannot or do no have the intelligence and/or honesty to see it like it is.

Cal is right to say 6th is his realistic finish position - the track and 5 full factory bikes to contend with support that. 5th or 4th would be stunning achievement but unlikely if all Factory bikes finish.

The electronics and engine management package is also a factor.Crutchlow was spanking the ass off that bike in Qatar,yet he finished the race with over a litre of fuel still in the tank.Rossi ran out of fuel on the run down lap.
That more than hints that the T3 bikes have tuned down packages.Which may help to explain Crutchlows inability to keep with Rossi once he passed him.When you look at how critical fuel is to a Motogp bike,it seems that something was not quite right for Crutchlow to have all that fuel left when the race ended.A litre may not sound like much,but when you look at how they cram every last teaspoon of the stuff into the bike before the race starts,you have to wonder.

Ok so .2 per lap quicker for crutch if he was on a factory bike. That translates to a only a few more podiums for him. Why was dovi able to get 6 podiums to crutches 2? Because he was a better RIDER! They were on the same bike!

@Don-R

I dont think anyone is disagreeing that a factory bike is better than a satellite ride but his race performances thus far do not say he deserves one.

Poles, Podiums, and above all consistency will give him what he wants.
