MotoGP » MotoGP to change TV tactics?

"The decision is part of Dorna's new strategy of... always focusing first and foremost on free-to-air coverage to bring MotoGP to wider audiences" - Dorna statement, 2008.

If true, what a totally *****ic decision. I'm not changing my telephone/internet provider to watch one sport! That's too much hassle.

The BBC need to pull their finger out, add 15mins+ to the show and show the podium. Stop messing with what channel it's on and do it properly.

Don't mind Steve Parrish, can take or leave Mr Cox.

If it goes from BBC (though that should be where you'll get the viewing figures from Dorna), then not to BT, please! Dumb idea.

Maybe it's just a bit of pressure on the Beeb from Dorna...

This is just another attempt by Dorna to increase their revenue from a sport they did not . and still do not, understand.
Their 2008 statement was followed, I believe, by the re-instatement of the best coverage by far, that of Eurosport, following a huge protest by fans, which led to a climb-down by Dorna.
Let's hope that there is someone involved who understands what this would mean for MotoGP - as well as less money for Dorna - as many current viewers (including me) would not be prepared to fork out extra cash to watch what would likely be one race.
If Dorna are intent on cocking up MotoGP, I shudder to think what they will do with SBK.

MotoGP needs big audiences and the teams need big audiences to encourage sponsors, this will not happen with BT Sport. Dorna are simply looking at short term gain from a fat cheque from BT, which will be to the long term detriment to the series. Leave things alone with BBC but make the contract clearer that they must show live and not give priority to show jumping, etc. Also leave on Eurosport with commentators available that at least have a passion and understanding for the sport and a bit of character! Here in the states we only have motogp on Speed TV. We have never gotten it for free. I wish they would have a separate show for highlights and commentary.

I would be sorry to see Moto GP go to pay per view as to see Cal Crutchlow giving it to Rossi & co is almost worth paying for. But lets face it at the moment WSB is far more entertaining and with a bigger racing programme, now that is worth paying for. Whoops I don't really mean that. Lets keep it all free and I'll put up with the adverts. PS isn't Bradley doing well.

I use my or JTV for online to catch oaa the free practice and qualifing...
yes here in the states we have to put up with speed TV
they suck but its all we get... as well weed vision ie speed tv dropped wsbk but beIn sports has it live and online too
they rule! btw Fox network bought speedtv so hopefully things will improve, and nearly everybody in the sates pay for cable or satillite or you get very very little over the air tv.

Its getting pretty expensive to be a motorsport viewer these days 40 odd quid a month for sky f1 (I'm guessin) and BT vision won't exactly be a fiver will it? Ahh the good old days of being able to enjoy sports for free. All history now.
