MotoGP » Ezpeleta: BBC to BT like 500cc to MotoGP

“500cc was fantastic for decades, but there is a moment when you need to move to other possibilities” - Carmelo Ezpeleta.

@Melee are you aware that the worldwide audience for MotoGP is higher now than it has ever been? And it grows year on year. You're kidding yourself if you think a change in broadcaster in the UK will make the slightest difference to that. Sport is business and what matters to any business is money. And how they make that money is through audience figures. The larger the audience figures the more broadcasters and sponsors will pay. Welcome to the real world. MotoGP is in rude health.

And as for Stoner he was already soundly beaten last year before he ruled himself out. Back in third behind Lorenzo and Pedrosa before his injury. You can pretend he would have won if you want, but the stats don't bear that out.

@TheBiscuit from what I hear Virgin and BT are "in negotiations". BT are aware however that they hold pretty much all the cards. Sky are already paying BT for sports 1 & 2 and Sky have many more TV customers than Virgin. Thanks to Virgin's laughable geographic coverage anybody who can get Virgin will be able to get Sky and already the vast majority can get BT Infinity and hence BT TV.

This puts Virgin in a position where lots of football, rugby and MotoGP will be available to Sky and BT customes, but not Virgin customers. When their customers realise this some time in the next couple of months they will start to desert to Sky and possible BT and Virgin will end up paying what BT wants.

Comparing BBC to 500cc bikes, well Mr. Ezpeleta we all know what happened since the 4 strokes took presence, 2 dead riders, boring races, lack of sponsorship, crappy CRT machines, switching back and forth between 800cc bikes and 1000cc bikes and a lack of full grids. At least Ezpeleta and I are certain about one thing when the 500cc were there it was a lot more interesting to watch.

Well that will be the end of watching motogp for me. Im pretty sick of it all to be honest . Its just a money making tool focussed around spanish riders . If rumours are true and Crutchlow is making way for espagaro it really shows they're not interested in british riders and fans. Dorna can shove it. I'll stick to watching the far more exciting BSB .

Grow a Brain Ezpeleta!

From here is looks like it would cost well over £300 a year for BT. That's double what I pay now.

As for your "more mature market" theory. Well this more mature biker has cut out BSB & WSBK because he wants more time on his hands. What do you think I'm going to do next..
