you have to prove yourself in this top class right away in order to keep yourself employed.. Cal has had 3 years, but little to show for it in the end other than a handful of podiums and some fast laps. If Dovi is your perpetual bridesmaid, then I would rate Cal behind him.

If another factory seat opens up, then Cal should definitely take it and consider himself lucky.

I hate how these things have to take place so early in the season. If a rider knows he is going to leave, its got to be taxing mentally. The races are hard enough. Still, these guys are being paid to race motorcycles. How sorry for them can you be?

@ Maximusproxx

I think you need to think that through again. Rossi has a contract that runs until THE END of 2014. So according to you Yamaha would consider breaking Rossi's contract to give Crutchlow his seat, yet Tech 3 wouldn't break Smith's contract to replace him with Pol instead of replacing Cal ? I think not! And the last time i checked Rossi finished ahead of Cal 2 out of 3 races. You don't get point for qualifying. Out-qualifying Rossi doesn't prove that Cal is better than Rossi

@ bsb rules:

Dovi left on his own accord because Yamaha wouldn't give him a factory bike. And it is easy to see why they didn't. He won only once after 3 years on a factory Honda. So why would they think he'd suddenly start winning on a factory Yamaha.....

@Firefly what are you talking about?

The commentards on here seem to have an obsession with passports. When a Spanish rider gets a seat it's because of his passport. When Spies got the Yamaha ride it was only because of his passport. Then when Spies got the Ducati seat it was because Ducati of his passport? Of course when Rossi went to Ducati it was because of his passport. Now you're telling us Smith got the Tech3 ride because of his passport.

Wrong. He got the Tech3 ride (not a British sponsor you'll note) because of the promise he showed in 125s. Then he got the MotoGP deal after a promising first season in Moto2. Unfortunately for Tech3 his initial promise was not fulfilled in his second season, but by that time the ink was dry on the contract. Tech3 BTW do not have the cash to buy out his contract, even if they wanted to.

HoneyBadger should respond talking to San Carlo Gresini. The Badger on that Honda should be better and more lethal than Stefan Bradl. Nothing against Bradl, I like the kid but he lost something on the winter break, I hope he recovers and do better.

@jjthekid46 "Out-qualifying Rossi doesn't prove that Cal is better than Rossi."

It goes further than that. If you outqualify somebody you start with an advantage over them, so if they beat you in the race it proves you're not good enough to hold on to that advantage.

In addition Rossi has always been known for using practice to work on his race setup. Even at his peak he often wouldn't qualify that well because unlike others he hadn't worked on a good qualifying setup. Could it be that Cal spends too much of his practice time working on his qualifying setup? If spent more time working on his race setup could it be that he might do better in the race?

As absurd as it sounds Crutchlow could take Rossi's bike only if Rossi started doing worst during the rest of 2013, and buys out his own contract for 2014 with Yamaha to retire early. After the Austin round I don't see the cheerful Rossi during his interviews, maybe I'm wrong and of course I would like him to do better, he gives to The Circus a good show.

With Moto GP moving to BT and subscription pay its going to be a problem for Brit riders with sponsor airtime having a large cut in viewer figures anyway. Come and join the BSB grid for some proper British racing that everyone can see for free.
