All those that keep quoting..' Dovi beat Cal on equal machinery' seem to have forgotten the 'Brakes Fiasco', Remember when Dovi had a better brakes for his bikes than Cal, no! didn't think you would..

That last sentence is Cal's death knell no matter what Herve wants:
"But Poncharal also highlighted that it was Crutchlow's decision to limit his latest Tech 3 contract to a single season - and that he had been ready to leave had the factory Ducati ride not gone to his then team mate Andrea Dovisioso."

Why the hell didn't he sign for two years with Tech3?? That way he would have been available "on the rider maket" by 2015, when Rossi, Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Marquez and Dovi's contracts are up, and maybe Hayden's too if they renew him for only one year again ! Instead he signs for just 2013 so that he can be available "on the rider market" on 2014 when only Hayden's seat could be available to him? It just doesn't make sense. Not a good career move Cal.

You mean the same brakes that Cal was using which were the same ones on Stoners bike?

Yeah I remember, what's your point? Did Cal magically start beating Dovi after he got the same brakes? No. I didn't think so.

They weren't looking at the future when they re-signed VR46, they were looking at past achievements and current sponsorship value.
But- so far VR46 has been too far adrift to either challenge or support JLo. And Yam still have not attracted a major title sponsor.
Also, all VR46 wants and expects from 2013 is a couple of wins to prove to himself that the win famine at Ducati wasn't a measure of his capabilities. He won't want to be a runner-up for the rest of his career.
Upon his return to Yamaha, VR46 and the Team spoke about him appearing in other classes, and if 2013 doesn't meet their mutual requirements I think it likely that Vale will vacate his M1 seat and promote Yamaha elsewhere.
In that scenario, Pol would go to Tech3, and Cal to the Yam factory team on a one-year contract.
Meanwhile, Cal and Herve are keeping Tech3 in the news where a high profile is a good plus-point for Rider, Team, Factory and prospective income sources.

There's a lot of talk about Ducati being the death knell for a riders career but what about Tech3?
Toseland, Edwards, Melandri, Elias, Checa, Ellison, Guintoli, Spies and Dovisioso have all passed through the door and where are they now? Either racing for less competitive teams, in WSBK, Moto2, BSB or breeding with pop singers. Not a great inspiration.
At present there is a former WSS champ doing quite well and a rookie from Moto2, who last won a race in 2009 and is doing poorly. Clearly time to get rid of one and the former has been selected - presumably on the same basis as the decision to let Dovi go just after he started to look a possible race winner.
And that is life at Tech3 - a team that has won - not much.

If Yamaha are dictating the terms it is possible that they could pay off Smith and make space that way. It only takes a bit of money - a signed contract means little if you have the resources to pay it off.
But this is Tech3....

Actually Cal was beating Dovi with the the old brakes


If by beating you mean finishing ahead of him three times in the first ten races than sure, Cal was beating Dovi. One of those three was Dovi finishing 19th at Silverstone, and for the life of me cannot remember why.

Cal finished in front of Dovi five times in 2012, three in the first ten races, twice in the last eight, with two podiums.
