The thing is rossi hasn't changed at all. The competition has greatly changed however. Rossi has been at this level his whole career, only now it's not cutting it anymore. People don't realize this, it's the same rossi, same racecraft, same everything, but better competition.

Hunter - talking of facts, you too make a statement that cannot be verified with evidence, he may be slower, others may be faster, hard to know for sure. So your point is pointless.

It's not looking good for Rossi so far and well see how the year goes. He is great of the sport, that's a fact based on his results, not an opinion. There are other greats too and Marques may also be great someday.

But it's great racing and not a bad year so far.

I also wonder if it's just the Qualifying format that isn't working well for him. He'll be fast in FP, but resigned to a 2nd or 3rd row start in QP (...but always perform better in the race).

Unfortunately Rossi has indeed passed his prime and he took one of the only 4 bikes capable of winning races. If Honda had MM and DP and Yamaha JL and CS yes that's Casey Stoner this would had been a great championship. By the lack of riders with good bikes we are in position were MM could win in his first year without too much of a fight.

Race pace is an important factor. And it seems he is ok, As well as being quick with a worn tire. The problem is if he doesn't get a good start he may get held up too long.He actually used to get decent starts with the Ducati, but not so much with the Yamaha.

Fat moose, it is a fact. Consider this: he won 5 championships in a row up until 2005, since then, only 2. One of 2 things happened my friend, either rossi got worse or the competition got better: this is a fact. I'm going with the latter.
