I think I know the GOATS problem that's keeping him back!, after some research, I have come to the conclusion that, Jeremy Burgess the 80second miracle worker!! decided that vale needed a stronger gearbox so after hunting around scrapyards for a suitable replacement, they came up with a gearbox out of an Italian WW2 tank, but being JB, he didn't realise that those tanks gearboxes were fitted with 7 reverse gears and only 1 forward, problem solved, just look at Dovi's result??

@ Claes....A good summation, a little simplistic though.

Jorge and Rossi have very different skills and at the moment Lorenzo's team have got their bike setup to match Jorge's smooth riding.
Rossi's late braking skills are requiring JB and his mob to get the bike to allow him to use them. Probably why they favour different chassis'.

Before the season started Rossi stated 2 things:- 1 that he wondered if he still had the speed and 2 that he would need time to match Lorenzo.
Number 1 is sorted and number 2 is still being worked on.
