Rossi's second podium at Le Mans was in full wet, for race distanance, if that had happened today he probably would have been on the podium.

Would have to look again, but didn't Marquez start getting strong once the dry lines were well formed?

Its quite easy to explain why rossi got second and Dovi got fourth, last year it rained for the whole race so the track was wet for the whole race, this year for the last part of the race the racing line was dry,if it had stayed wet he would have been second quite simple really.

Where in my post did I mention VR? I think its your VR fixation and determination to leap to defend VR thats causing you problems.

My post was simple - an earlier poster stated that the final position was the only fact that mattered. I pointed out that its not JUST the final position, but the conditions, competition on the day and the MANNER in which that final position was earned that is also a big indicator of how good the ride was.
Dovi fought hard in changeable conditions on a difficult bike right at the front with grit and determination to get a very competitive and hard-won 4th. E.g. Thats way better than a lonely and distant 4th where all the rider had to do was ride around on their own for 20 laps while the rest of the field was even slower.
The position is the same, but one is a gutsy and competitive ride, while the other is not. Pretty simple to understand really!

It's not JUST about the final position, but how competitive his race and final position was.
How competetive was Rossi coming through from 7th on the grid passing 5 riders incuding the world champion Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa on works Hondas as well as Dovi and Crutchlow. I am not so much fixated with Rossi more fed up hearing how well Dovi is doing on the Ducati.. I mean really is he doing well he HAS gone backwards in every race this season! What he has done is qualify the bike really well and I would not take that away from the man well done for that! but are his results better than Rossi was doing on the bike the plain fact is NO and that is the fact there is no disputing the results board. If I read it once I have read it a hundred time when referring to Rossi its about where you finish not about if's, but's and maybe's but it would appear that it does not apply to Dovi ! We are coming to a series of tracks whereDovi should excel that will answer many questions ab

can't believe how ignorant some people are. Rossi 3rd in 2011, huh? in fact that's a 5th, as one rider in front of him crashed and the other got penalized. (It was still a decent ride though). In 2012 yeah that was a nice result but it was wet all through the race as others already pointed out and Dovi was at least as fast, if not faster, than Rossi last year. And the stupid talk about "aliens", jeez, how dumb can you be. Anyone who believes Dovi is in any way inferior to any of the riders is a complete fool.

@ jambop. The thing is, when talking about Dovi's Le Mans performance throughout the weekend there are no ifs buts or maybe's. He got a well-fought 4th in a race where the competition was strong.

Not once have I mentioned or compared this to VR's rides on the Ducati at Le Mans (though others have made good points). My posts were purely about Dovi, in a Dovi thread. I have commented on VR elsewhere where it is more relevant. It is however inescapable that Dovi managed to qualify the Duke better than VR ever did, and also was heading Rossi while scrapping with Dani before VR crashed, and brought it home well ahead of VR yesterday as well. Dovi did well, thats it.

@ jambop. tell you what - lets turn this on its head, and imagine instead that it was VR riding the Ducati, with the same performance and the same result. Now - what do you think the comments from the VR faithful would be?

I'll tell you. It'd be all about how the bike held him back, and that if he'd had been on a Yamaha he'd have smoked the field, and that only his amazing talent got that heap as high as 4th. All praise Vale!

Instead it was Dovi, and so he won't get accorded the same treatment. Meanwhile VR did have his Yamaha, and was being beaten fair and square by Dovi on 1 Duke, and pressured hard by Hayden on the other and then crashed. Anyone can crash so I'm not bashing Rossi - but why can't you credit Dovi when he deserves it?

No need to turn it on its head Rossi finished second there last year! Look I'm not a Rossi apologist he cannot qualify a bike now fullstop! He could not qualify the Ducati and he cannot qualify the Yamaha he does not have a fast lap in him with the new tyre end off and Dovi does BUT Rossi only finished TWICE in a position that was not higher than his qualifying position in two years with Ducati! These are not my observations they straight from Ducati's own racing site. Dovi has yet to finish higher than he qualified and what does this highlight? He is qualyifing the bike better than Rossi did and nothing more. He qualifies well and goes backward in the race Rossi qualifies poorly and goes forward now that is not made up its fact bourne out by results. Now don't start on about tyres going off every racer has to endure that!

Great to see Ducati at the front for a change. Both Dovi and Hayden pushed. Obviously, the bike still has its problems, but it was much more interesting race with the Ducati colours in the mix.

Dovi fought back with Pedro a few times, only conceding the battle after a strong fight, and Hayden was right up Rossi's bottle, which forced the small error, but also cost Hayden any real hope of a podium. Nice work all round.

If only Iannone was fully fit for this track!
