@julius, the only thing that made stoner won that championship was the Bridgestone tires and not to mention that 800cc Ducati was better than 990cc one , you can see even hayden was in top 6 with it, i admit also rossi strugles and he is not going to win 2013 world title but maybe if he recoveres in 2014 , he did not compete with the top for 2 years , must be hard for him to adapt against 3 fast spanish guys.

I think Rossi still has "it", but if he can't get his qualifying sorted, and start on the front row, it's game over from the beginning. He is spending to much time trying to fight his way around satellite teams and by the time he gets clear, the other factory bikes have simply put to much distance on him. Also, the Honda's are clearly the best machines at this point, they are doing everything right and are scorching fast.

@ Mugello - As in most racing, he should aim to beat his team mate. You'd expect Lorenzo to be up fighting for the win, so Rossi just always needs to keep him in his sights, IMO anyway.

If he had have just conceded the spot to Hayden in Le Mans, he would still have beaten Lorenzo and it wouldn't have been too bad. He should be aiming for that in Mugello too, if not fighting for the win.

Rossi is still a great rider but the fact is Honda have a better bike and Lorenzo is better than him right now so a podium anywhere will be difficult.

Alnother problem is given how strong Ducati were here last year in qualifying and the fact Rossi can't ride the soft tyre there is a threat that he wont make the final qualifying session.

It's Lorenzo's bike and the Honda's are a mile a head, just getting 4th is almost an achievement. Seriously. The only thing keeping Lorenzo from beating him are setup/tires issues for Lorenzo.

Rossi is supposed to hand over the torch to Marquez this year, and his followers are supposed to jump bandwagons, I think Rossi needs to go to WSBK where being Italian (or UK) is more significant than being Spanish in GPs.

@ DB08

I am not sure he crashed at Le Mans because of Hayden, although it certainly looked like it... It think it was probably that bump he sais he hit or that he was pushing the hardest when the track was starting to dry out . If you look at the times, he set the second fastest lap of the race , second only to Pedrosa, the lap before he crashed. On the MCN interview he said he had slowed down because of problems with his visor but was planing to push again and try to take Cal and maybe Dovi. I know it sounds like 'sure , you say that now' but he normally doesn't make up excuses like that so I am inclined to believe his version of the story.

Mugello will be different as will probably be dry, so if he wants to be on the podium you're right he'll need to find a good setting and try to beat Lorenzo. The Hondas look just too strong at the moment.
