"You only see a rider like Marc Marquez come along every 15 years and the one before that was Valentino [Rossi]” – Cal Crutchlow

Pedrosa came closer to the title in 2006 than Lorenzo in 2008 when they had similar opportunity, but Lorenzo has had a better career since so it's not fair to say Marquez is a Rossi-level phenomenon at this stage and dismiss the other three when Marquez is still more potential than achievement.

I expect Marquez to go down as one of the great riders but I don't think he'll necessarily be considered better than Lorenzo and Stoner.

Cal only has great words for everybody lately.

That's a very good trait usually, to see the positive sides of people around you, but does anybody else feel that this is getting a bit too much?

Edit: yes, many do, just read now the previous comments :D

@ MrQwerty

I do also think that MM has the potential of being one of the greatest, let's say top 5 ever together with Ago, Rossi and... you choose the other 2 I don't want polemics :D

However, this is a very common mistake indeed, people see the *beginning* of a trend and take for granted it's going to keep that way and getting better and better, but it's not always like that.

Anyway, for me, one of the "fears" for the future of motoGP is that nobody will come along to challenge MM in some years' time and then it might be boring time (it was like that for Rossi, but that's different as Rossi made motoGP much much bigger rather than more boring.. )

@ lux

My fear isn't so much that Marquez will lack competition after Pedrosa and Loenzo, it's that the title will become the sole preserve of Spaniards. I'm looking at the future and thinking Pol, Rins, Maverick, maybe Redding but hopefully Folger, Fenati and Miller or Sissis to keep an international flavour.

It seems almost astonishing to think that before Lorenzo Spain only had one premier class title, though I recognise the likes of Angel Nieto won titles on smaller bikes when they were more than just feeder classes.

True true, really astonishing.

It's even more astonishing if you think that it's also true in other sports... Before 2008 Spain had won nothing in football and since then dominated everything, also at a club level.

And Alonso in F1, cycling victories, tennis with Nadal... Seems like in terms of sport it's a magical period for them.. :)

you dont get too many riders who give praise to the opposition these days. like a comment of bygone days. good to see. what he says is right ref marquez.
you cant help but feel that moto2 helps make the transition easier compared to 250's and the 1000 is more forgiving than the 800. brads doing well, iannones pramacs top rider for one reason or another.
i love cal dont get me wrong. i wish he would stop making rookie mistakes , speaking pigeon english and looking so smug! easy for me to say tho i suppose!

pedrosa suffers physical and character set backs and bad luck but should have more success to speak of.
lorenzo is nt a wild man and plied his trade gradually, had a good teacher and is an awesome rider now.
marquez has come to the fore very quick and is very skilled but also he is repsols golden boy and they re- wrote the ruler book for him and honda are top of the perch again these days. skilled and privileged or vice versa ?
we are passionate, they are competitive but it is work for them after all. job places have all kinds of employees.

good for the sport whatever.

Pleeaasse,

So the only reason MM hasn't fallen like JLo in his early days is that he has access to other riders data, the only reason stoner didn't achieve on the sat honda (which he stated many times was a race winning capable bike) was because of Michies left over tires and pedro is no good because he hasnt won a title??????

Crutchlow is 1 of maybe 50 people in the entire world right now that DOES know what he is talking about.

If you don't agree that's your opinion but you have to wonder how much that's worth?

CC has raced against VR, MM, DP, CS & JL so if CC says MM and previously VR and doesn't mention the others, deal with it.

Remember CC saying VR is still a force after CC couldnt pass him on the Ducati last year and everyone on here bagged him "what does he know".....who won the last round?

I usually agree to Cal cause he is a straight talker, but this time I have to disagree with him.... He is full of praises with Marc ever since Marc move up in MotoGP. Yes, Marquez is fantastic but there a many factors why he is fantastic. One factors is that Honda RC213V is working well, and Rossi is not on his prime right now, and there is the absence of Stoner. Pedrosa on the other hand is fantastic in his debut season, winning 2 races and lots of podiums, but that RC211v is hardly suited to him, he tiptoes in that bike and the next RC212v is a disaster. Clearly the bike helped Marc a lot, but I think Stoner is much more of a rider than Marquez.

Until Cal and his new 'hero' ride the ducati...
well, let's just say, I'll reserve my opinion.
An outrageous and shortsighted observation in my book, hardly supported by facts nor people of any heritage in GP racing.
