It's probably a safer option then gambling with an old motor that's close to the limit. However, with this DNF - catching Dovi in the points is not going to happen, there's no point trying to save face with Ducati - maybe go for it and try to get the best result possible on a risky old motor. Do some compression tests and go with the best left over motor you have.

That sucks though. He was catching Smith and pulling away from Dovi, that was a much needed performance for his ego and his future. Too bad he didn't have the luck on his side today. Phillip Island ought to be a good one though.

Yamaha have been breaking the seals on all four bikes' engines at about the same time. They opened their fifth engine last time out. Imagine what it will look like if, at a race where the championship is being decided, we have the four yamahas plus Hayden's Ducati starting from pit lane. How much more stupid could Dorna look, by letting such a stupid rule exist? Is that what they call a good show?

Ducati stopped winning when the control tyre came in, it has nothing to do with the motor.
They need a very grippy front tyre to combat the understeer. Bridegstone used to make a suitable one especially for them. Ducati are the team that has been the most penalised by the control tyre, Yamaha the least.

re: "I'd hate for it to be Philip Island to start from pit lane because it's one of my favourite tracks"

ok, if it's one of your favorites, and you think you're "pizzedoff" now, how much would you hate scattering another engine, only this time on lap 4...?

solution: just take an engine and go WTFO. you're riding for sh!ts and grins anyway, yes...? ride for fun.

Spot on mate.It would turn the championship into a total fiasco if that situation arose.Thing is,its not beyond the realms of possibility either!
What a complete embarrassment it would be.
